Kevin Ong Memorial Speech Tournament

Elkhart High School

November 22, 2025

The Elkhart High School Speech Team invites you to the inaugural Kevin Ong Memorial Speech Tournament.  We will offer all 15 ISSDA speech events as well as Congress and World Schools Debate. All normal ISSDA rules apply, unless otherwise specified. Please make sure to read through all of the following information carefully. It will be a full day of competition. ALL TIMES LISTED ARE EST.

Tournament Information

Speech Registration: 8:00-8:30 am in front of the Media Center. Extemp Prep starts at 8:45am. Round 1 will begin at 9:00am.

Entries: Varsity and Novice divisions with a max. of 8 total per event in speech.  No “B” teams will be accepted because of space.

Judges: Please bring 1 judge for every 5 entries or fraction (6 entries=2 judges). The head coach is expected to judge and be listed as the 1st judge on the entry.

E-Balloting We will be using online ballots for our tournament. This means two things:

  1. You will need to supply valid email addresses for each of your judges.
  2. Your judges will need to bring a laptop or tablet to use to judge. While smartphones can work, it’s a bit more difficult to write critiques on a phone than the larger devices.

Doubling: All speech events are allowed to double according to ISSDA rules. No doubling in Congress or World Schools.

Please note the following regarding doublers in Extemp and Broadcasting:

  • Extempers MUST go to extemp first and then go to their second event.
  • Broadcasting doublers MUST go to Broadcasting first.

  • Rounds 3 & 4 will be impromptu motions.
