and CONGRESS, whatever category that belongs to.
Try a category!
INTERP: Impromptu - Using NSDA rules.
This is a 7 minute speech with a 30 second grace period. Your time starts when you turn over the prompts. You will prepare in the room. There are no requirements for how you use this time.
Performances are similar to Extemp in that one competitor is in the room at a time, and leaves when they are through.
DEBATE: Extemporaneous Debate - Using NSDA rules. Speed run debate with only 30 minutes of prep.
Debate Topics: January NSDA resolutions will be used for Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas Debates.
Entries: Four entries per school are allowed in each event. We will accommodate additional entries if judges are provided for entries. Thank you for helping us run a timely tournament for all!
Judging and Registration: All teams will be expected to provide judges that cover ALL their entries! 1 speech judge covers 6 entries, 1 debate judge covers 2 entries. The tournament would like to have a single wave of debate, so please provide adequate coverage.
Doubling: Speech competitors can enter up to two events, but Extempers will risk losing prep time. Debaters may not double enter.
Rules: We will abide by CHSAA rules and rankings for speech and debate events.
Fees: Entry fees are $10 per competitor. Make payment to:

AI Policy
According to NSDA and CHSAA rules, use of AI Generative Models and Large Language Models is both discouraged and prohibited. Students who navigate to these websites during tournaments will face consequences up to and including disqualification. For example, debaters should not navigate to these websites during a debate, and Extempers should not navigate to these websites during prep time. Presenting AI work as your own is viewed as plagiarism.
Our expectation is that students have not used these websites in the creation process of their speech or performance. Navigating to AI websites during competition, even to retrieve previously searched information, is against this policy. Ultimately, this policy seeks to preserve and prioritize student critical thinking and reading comprehension in their performance.
Thank you for your consideration!
