We are excited to be a NIETOC bid host school in 2026!

The New Prague Trojan "Fight the Dragon!" Speech Meet is on Saturday, March 7th.  We will be offering Novice and Varsity competition in the 13 MSHSL categories as well as Varsity-only Impromptu and POI.

What is Impromptu? Speakers will draw more than one prompt from an envelope and select one prompt to speak on. Prompts will be delivered in the room on paper by the judge. Speakers have a total of 7 minutes to decide on their prompt, prep, and deliver their speeches. The judge will start timing a speaker when the speaker chooses which prompt to speak on. 

What is POI? Speakers create a 10-minute unified program that thematically links literary material. Speakers can draw from a wide variety of published works (prose, poetry, drama, etc.) to convey an overall message or explore a specific theme.

Costs: $7/entry, $10.50/entry for Duo and Creative Duo. $15 base entry fee. $7/entry drop fee begins March 2nd. $100 fine for every uncovered judge (1 judge needed for every 6 entries). Limits: Due to space limits, Double-Entries need to be limited to the following conditions:  No double-entries in more than one draw category, and no-double entries with Discussion

Tasks: Extemp. Reading will be using ALL prose and poetry selections. In all draw events, students will not be able to repeat topics or stories from previous rounds. Discussion tasks will come from Areas III (Governmental Interests) and IV (International Interests), as detailed in the outline provided by MSHSL. 

We will be using a LIVE DOC to communicate with competitors and judges. This will be emailed out the week of the tournament.
