Coaches,

You are cordially invited to attend the Bishop Neumann Cavalier Classic, slated for Saturday, February 7, 2026 in Wahoo. The contest will begin at 9 am. This year we plan to offer two separate divisions: Varsity and Novice. Any HS student may compete in the Varsity division. The Novice division is open to all speakers who are participating in their first year of High School Speech. This rule applies to Duets and OID's as well - for a novice entry, each group must be made up entirely of novice performers.

The meet will take place at our HS building: 202 South Linden Street. Plan to enter the south doors into the Cafeteria, where we’ll have team areas, our concession stand/lunch, general meeting, and awards.

There will be one judge in each prelim section, two for champs finals, and one each for all other final rounds (novice, next-in, etc.)

If entry numbers prove to be too low, we reserve the option to eliminate flights and finish earlier in the day.

We plan to use paper ballots for the tournament.

We will offer all 10 NSAA events plus Impromptu Speaking (8 mins. maximum combined time for prepping and speaking). Current NSAA Rules will be followed for each event, with the exception of tie-breakers.
We will break ties as follows:
Overall Placing: Finals Ranks, Finals Recips, H2H in prelims, Finals Speaker Pts., Prelim Ranks, Prelim Recips, Prelim Speaker Pts.
Finals breaks: All ranks so far, H2H, All reciprocals so far, All speaker pts. so far

Awards

We will present medals for 1st - 6th place in each event. Should any events surpass 24 entries, more medals will be awarded in that event. Team scores based upon final placings will be calculated, with plaques being awarded to the champion and runner-up teams. We will follow the state speech format (20-18-16-14-12-10) and further down if needed (9-8-7-6-5-4). Novice placings will also score points in the team sweepstakes race (6-5-4-3-2-1).

There will be Bishop Neumann students competing and eligible for individual awards at our tournament, however we will not be eligible for the team sweepstakes.

Food

We will be offering a concession stand throughout the day, with special lunch items available starting around 11.

Deadlines and Fees

Entries will be due by 5 pm on Tuesday, February 3rd, but please enter them as soon as you have an idea what they will be. Coaches who register their team by January 10th will receive a special prize at the tournament! No charges will be assessed until the deadline. Any drops after the deadline will still be assessed entry fees.

Fees are $8 per entry (OID’s count as one entry, as do Duets), and we ask that you provide one judge for each 5 entries or portion thereof. The fee for each uncovered slot will be an extra $15 per entry. (Example: 8 entries, 1 judge = $64 for entry fees + $45 for 3 uncovered slots = $109.)

Checks can be made payable to Bishop Neumann Speech Team, 202 South Linden St., Wahoo, NE 68066. You can bring these with you the day of the meet, but if you need to mail it, please mark it Attn: Chris Kabes.
