This is a High School tournament in Minnesota.

Dear Speech Coaches:

You are invited to participate in the Redwood Valley Cardinal Tournament on Saturday, March 7th. This is a 3-round tournament with finals for students in grades 6-12.

Registration, Adds, and Drops

Students may participate in any of the 13 MSHSL-sanctioned categories. There is no cap on the number of students who can attend and participate. Double entries are allowed in all events; please no triple entries. Discussion rounds will start 15 minutes late to accommodate any double entries in that category.

Registration is due in SpeechWire by Wednesday, March 4th at 5:00 pm. Judges will be locked in at that time. Changes can be made to a team’s entry until Saturday, March 7th at 7:00 am. After this time, drops will be allowed but not refunded. Any changes after this time should be communicated to the tournament manager. Adds will be allowed at the discretion of the tournament manager.

Please make sure that all of your speakers and judges have a live.speechwire.com account set up and accessible to them prior to Saturday morning.

Draws

Draws will be conducted live online via SpeechWire. Speakers will draw for all rounds and finals. Extemporaneous Reading and Storytelling will use all cuttings. Ranges for Discussion sub-points will be sent out prior to the tournament date.

Judges

Please bring 1 judge for every 6 entries or fraction thereof. Judges should be available for all rounds and for any category assigned. If there are specific conflicts, please communicate them early.

There will be VERY few judges available for hire. If you need to hire one, please let us know ASAP to coordinate. The cost of an uncovered judge is $150.

We will plan to use electronic ballots and critiques at this tournament. If necessary, we will offer paper ballots and critique sheets to judges. Please let us know if any of your judges need to use paper materials. With online ballots, all critiques must be submitted prior to the end of the tournament.

$7.00 per entry, $14.00 per Duo. No Team fees.

Concessions

Concessions will be available for students throughout the day. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for coaches and judges in the Judges’ Lounge.

Awards

Individual awards will be presented to speakers who place in the top 6 of their category. Blue and red ribbons will be awarded to students who are next out or two out of placing. Team sweepstakes awards will be given to the top 2 schools in large and small divisions.
