Donuts in December - JV/Novice Tournament
General information This is a High School tournament in Illinois. View manager contact information We are thrilled to announce that Maine West will be hosting a JV Speech Tournament this December—our first home tournament in quite some time! This is a wonderful opportunity for first-year and developing speech team members to gain valuable competition experience in a supportive and exciting environment. And yes… our theme is donuts! 🍩 Expect plenty of donut-themed fun throughout the day (and, of course, donuts for sale in concessions). We hope you’ll join us in giving your novice and JV members the chance to shine. Space will be limited, so we encourage you to register early.

Maine West is excited to host our very own JV tournament - Donuts in December! It’s been ages since we’ve hosted a tournament and we’re thrilled to one back to our school and share our beautiful space with all of you. So bring a few competitors down - maybe a baker’s dozen? - and get ready to get glazed!

SCHEDULE
Our in-person schedule runs as follows:
7am - Registration open
8am - Radio & Extemp prep/Judges Meeting
8:30am Round I, all events
10:00 - Round II, all events
11:30 - Round III, all events
12:15 - Lunch & Donuts
2:00 - Awards
FORMAT AND ENTRIES
We are an In-Person Tournament and will be following a traditional JV format: One prep for Extemp & Radio, 3 rounds, NO FINALS, and Awards at the end.
We will be using E ballots, so make sure your judges bring a laptop (a finite number of extra laptops and paper ballots will be available).
Teams can enter up to 3 competitors per category. Entries can be added up until a week before the tournament- December 6th. Drops can be given until 6pm the day before - December 12th.
AWARDS
Individual awards will be given based on the top 6 competitors from the three rounds. There will be no team sweeps for this tournament.
CONCESSIONS
Concessions will be available for students during the tournament. Coaches and judges can enjoy our complimentary food & drink provided in the Judge’s Lounge throughout the day.
RULES
Extemp and Radio will prep once and use their prepped materials for all three rounds.
Impromptu will mirror the IHSA rules and there WILL NOT be any words used as prompts. In each round, students will have a choice of three prompts and those choices will be quotations, proverbs, or phrases.
We will follow IHSA rules on all other events. Since this is a JV tournament, there will be no penalties for time, except in Radio.
ENTRY FEES AND JUDGES
A base fee of $175 per team. One judge must be provided per 6 entries. An additional fee of $125 will be charged for each judge for 6 competitors NOT provided.
