Plymouth High School will be hosting a Varsity ONLY Speech Tournament on Saturday,February 14th, 2026.  

GENERAL INFORMATION 

• We will offer a team total of 40 entries for sweepstakes with a cap of 5 entries in all categories. Please note, we are also hosting the Northeast Indiana District Speech Tournament at the same time, so space will be limited, but you can email me if you have questions as accommodations might be possible
• Registration Deadline: Please submit your entry no later than Monday, February 9th, 2026 by 5:00pm (EST) on Speechwire. 
• And again, we are hosting the Northeast Indiana District Speech Tournament as well, so be sure and enter any DISTRICT entries with Jeff Stutzman’s Speechwire Tournament and the PHS Speech Tournament entry with this Speechwire Tournament!
• Speechwire will be used for entries and to run the tournament.  Please make sure students have accounts and know how to see their schematics online.

***Dual Nature of 14th*** 

We will be holding this tournament in conjunction with the Northeast Indiana District Speech tournament. These two tournaments are run at the same time but will operate totally separately. WHEN ENTERING JUDGES JUDGES FOR THE TWO TOURNAMENTS…Keep your lists SEPARATE. You can not DOUBLE DIP JUDGES between both tournaments. All schools MUST LIST ENOUGH judges to satisfy ALL DISTRICT ENTRIES as well as enough to satisfy ALL REGULAR SPEECH TOURNAMENT ENTRIES. And this is done through TWO seperate SpeechWire Events!

• Our Northeast District chair, Jeff Stutzman, will be sending Northeast Indiana coaches any remaining details related to Speech Districts. If you have any questions, please send those to him, jstutzman@concord.k12.in.us

Plymouth Speech Tournament EVENT DETAILS

We will  follow all ISSDA rules as posted with some points of emphasis and minor adjustments.

• Competition will be held in all 15 ISSDA Speech Events
• Doubling Information
• Remember Duo and OP = Duo doublers are NO LONGER required to maintain the same partner if choosing to enter multiple Duo events
• Discussion participants MAY NOT double.
• Extemp MAY NOT double in both extemp events.
• Broadcasting participants who are doubles should report to broadcasting first.

The following exception to the ISSDA Rules will apply:

• ​Discussion = We will release 4 Discussion Artifacts by Monday evening the week of the tournament. Driving Questions will be released the day of the tournament. They will be revealed by the judges during each round at the tournament.
• Extemp = We will draw before rounds 1 and 3.  We will be using Speechwire for the Draw, so please have your extemp students ready for this type of draw.
• Broadcasting = To prepare for Sectionals and State, we will NOT use radio equipment but have the student and judge in the same room.
  • ​Rounds 1 - News Program (5 minutes total) including news stories from the week prior to the day of the tournament. As well as the following…
    • Music Intro / Outro  (20 - 30 seconds each end) students should reference songs & artists. Options posted by Monday evening the week of the tournament.
    • Commercial (45 - 60 seconds) product will be posted by Monday evening the week of the tournament.
  • Round 2 - Editorial (2 minutes) topic area will be posted by Monday evening the week of the tournament.
  • Round 3 - Breaking News (NOT Timed) students will be given a script to look at for 2 minutes before presenting the script.
  • Final - News Program (5 minute total) same as Rd 1 specifics

JUDGE DETAILS

• We will need 1 judge for every 5 entries plus a fraction based on the entry total.  If a school has 6 entries they will be expected to provide 2 judges. 
• We will be using on-line balloting through SpeechWire for the tournament. Coaches should register judges along with their email addresses and have an electronic device to use for completing ballots.
• All Judges will be asked to write constructive critiques with a reason for rank along with returning scores for each speaker in their section.

FOOD DETAILS

We will have food available for purchase at the tournament for competitors. We will also have a judge lounge available for your judges.  We cannot necessarily accomodate all possible dietary restrictions, but we will do our best.   

Please remain on campus and partake in what we have to offer. 

• NO FOOD DELIVERIES…PERIOD! 
  • ​Individual disqualification may occur if a student is caught ordering food to our campus. Team disqualification may occur when a judge or coach is caught ordering food to our campus. 
• Please respect the need for concessions to cover the costs of the tournament. 
• Also, not allowing building doors to be opened throughout the day will improve the safety of our tournament! 

If any students, judges, or coaches, do have dietary restrictions, we certainly understand that they may need to bring their own lunch to the tournament.  

We just can not have deliveries coming to the school. Thank you for understanding.

AWARDS

• We will be awarding ribbons to the top 6 speakers in all varsity events. 
• We will also be awarding team trophies to the top 5 teams at the tournament. 

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE - Please note that our building is not huge and if we have to flight the tournament for enough rooms and/or judges, this will change.

• 7:00 am - Building open 
• 8:00 am - Judges' Meeting (Cafeteria) 
• 8:15 am - Extemp Draw 
• 8:30 am - Round 1 for all events except extemp
• 8:45 am - Round 1 for Extemp
• 10:00 am - Round 2 for all events
• 11:00 am - Extemp Draw 
• 11:30 am - Round 3 
• Lunch Break 
• Approx 1:15 pm - Post & Begin Finals 
• Hopefully 3:15 pm - Begin Awards
