78th Annual LE Norton Memorial
General information This is a College tournament in Illinois. View manager contact information October 2025
Dear Colleagues,
Bradley University is delighted to invite you to the 78th Annual L.E. Norton Memorial Tournament, to be held on our campus November 1–2, 2025.
For more than seven decades, the Norton has been a place where talent takes flight, friendships are forged, and the spirit of competition shines brighter than the Emerald City itself. This year, as we gather once again, we aim to honor that tradition while continuing to defy expectations.
Assistant Coaches David Daye and Rodrigo Trujillo, Team President Julia Hunt, Vice President and Student Tournament Director Paul Swartz and the rest of our staff and team are working their magic to make this year’s Norton an unforgettable experience.
We will offer novice and open divisions for all 11 AFA events, and we will continue to recognize limited entry and individual sweepstakes. Congratulations once again to last year’s open team sweepstakes champions, Western Kentucky University, and to Cecilia Alali, also from WKU, on winning individual sweepstakes. We also extend our admiration to Megan Koch from Illinois State University, last year’s recipient of the L.E. Norton award, which honors those who embody Dr. Norton’s enduring legacy of leadership, devotion, and passion for college forensics. We look forward to recognizing another individual this year, whose work continues to inspire and uplift our community.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We look forward to welcoming you to Peoria to celebrate our shared craft, Dr. Norton’s vision, and perhaps discover a few new ways to defy gravity together.
Sincerely,
Andrew Eilola, PhD Director of Forensics (218) 290-5574

Tournament Notes Content Warnings We recommend the use of content and/or trigger warnings when possible for competitors who may be performing sensitive material. This can be written on the board and/or stated prior to the performance.
Quiet Room There will be a quiet room available for students, coaches and judges who experience sensory overload or need a space to decompress.
Open Door Policy We encourage competitors to stay and support all performances if they are not double-entered. However, we will have an open-door policy where students and audience members are free to leave before, during, and between performances without negative repercussions. Additionally, judges should accept all forms of listening, including students who disengage from a performance (e.g., actively dissociate, put their head down, etc.) when they are uncomfortable. We will remind judges and competitors of this at the tournament.
Judge Concerns Please contact the tournament director if you have concerns about being judged by someone at the tournament. Blocks can be put in place if you have a problematic history with someone or are simply uncomfortable.
Community and Travel Notes We’re proud to welcome you to Peoria, a city that has hosted the Norton for decades. As you plan your travel, please be mindful of the current political climate surrounding immigration and identification laws. Illinois remains a welcoming state, and Bradley University is committed to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all competitors.
Coaches are encouraged to review travel guidance for undocumented students or international competitors prior to departure. Helpful resources include: Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (icirr.org) National Immigration Legal Services Directory
