Junior Central Players

We are excited to host the Junior Central Players Spring Fling Meet on May 2, 2026!🌸
You may register for events via the SpeechWire website. Our tournament will include 2 rounds and finals, with registration running from 8:00 to 8:30 am. A General Meeting will be held after registration in the New Gym.
Triathlon: We will have an award for the top 3 speakers entered in 3 or more events!
You must furnish one judge for every 5 entries or part thereof. (5 entries = 1 judge, 6 entries = 2 judges) There will be a $15 charge per uncovered entry. Remember, if you want to judge, you count as one judge.
Entry fees are $5 for each individual event. Group entries count as one entry.
Concessions will be available throughout the meet. Our hospitality lounge will be open and available to coaches and judges.

EVENT RULES
Extemporaneous: Topics will cover both foreign and domestic issues from the news. Thirty minute prep time. One 4X6 note card optional. Internet usage is allowed. TIME LIMIT 3 to 5min.
Original Oratory: Must be an original work of the student to inspire, persuade, and/or convince. Limit of 150 quoted words. Script is optional. TIME LIMIT MAX 8.
Informative Speaking: Must be the original work of the student. This is a speech intended to inform the audience on a subject. You are allowed to use visual aids. Access to electronic visual aids will not be provided. Script is optional. TIME LIMIT 8 min MAX.
Entertainment speaking: Must be the original work of the student. This is a speech intended to entertain the audience. It should be structured, sources are optional. You are allowed to use visual aids. Access to electronic visual aids will not be provided. Script is optional. TIME LIMIT 8 min MAX.
Dramatic Interpretation: A serious interpretation of an original cutting from prose or a play. TIME LIMIT MAX 8.
Humorous Interpretation: A humorous interpretation of an original cutting from prose or a play. TIME LIMIT MAX 8.
Poetry: A serious or humorous interpretation of one or more poems. If more than one poem is used, they must be based on either a theme or a single author. Script is required. TIME LIMIT MAX 8min.
DUET: An original cutting from a humorous or serious play, acted out by two individuals. Two chairs and one table may be used, but will not be provided by the host school. TIME LIMIT MAX 10 minutes.
Aspiring Speaker: This event is for anyone in 5th grade or below who would like to participate in public speaking. It can range from original works to scripts to reading from a story. TIME LIMIT MAX 8 minutes.
Declamation: A performance of a famous/impactful speech previously delivered by someone else. Script is optional. TIME LIMIT MAX 8 minutes.
Impromptu Speaking: Judges will be in charge of setting a timer after the student chooses their topic. 10 minutes will be given to both prep and speak.

*Please note that we will not be in the Main Gym this year. We will be congregating in the New Gym due to overlapping conflicts with our gym usage!
