Tournament Information

Categories

All 13 MSHSL categories, plus Program Oral Interp (POI) and Impromptu.

Registration Deadlines

  • Monday, January 13, 2025 – Initial Team Entry Deadline

  • Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 3:00 PM – Drops and adds due (drops after this time will not be reflected in statements)

Entry Limits

No team or category entry limits.

Entry Fees

  • $8 per entry / $16 per duo

  • Checks payable to Chanhassen High School Speech Boosters

  • $25 team transportation fee to support bussing novices from Chaska MS West to the high school

Entry Changes

Teams may update entries on SpeechWire until registration closes. Drops/adds can also be made at the registration table the morning of the tournament. Because we are site-scheduling all rounds, registration must be fully completed by 7:45 AM, or you must call 612-408-7139 to report team drops.

Novice/Varsity Split

To support early-season growth:

  • Novice and varsity divisions will be separated in all categories.

  • No novice finals—novices should attend the varsity finals in their categories.

  • A novice is defined as a first-year competitor or a student switching from PA to Interp (or vice versa).

  • Novice Extemp and Discussion will remain at the high school.

  • Novice competitors in those two categories may not double-enter in other novice events at the middle school, but they may compete in varsity.

Double/Triple Entering

  • Double entry is allowed in all categories, including Discussion.

  • Discussion begins 15 minutes early for double-entered discussants.

  • Students may double-enter in one draw event only.

  • Triple entry is permitted as long as the student has no more than one draw event.

  • Novice Discussion/Draw entries may not double enter due to the two-site format.

  • Students double and triple enter at their own risk!

Judging Requirements

Bring 1 judge per 6 entries (or fraction thereof).
A limited number of hireable judges are available at $80 per day.
Please contact me by January 13 if you plan to hire a judge.

Judging Finals

All judges must be available for varsity finals—including those stationed at Chaska Middle School West. If you have extra coaches on site who are not judging, we would deeply appreciate their help in finals to allow us to offer five-judge panels whenever possible.

Tournament Format

  • Novice: Three preliminary rounds

  • Varsity: Three preliminary rounds + final round
