Event Information:

  • Extemp Contestants who are doubled MUST go to Extemp Prep first every round. Failure to do so may result in loss of some of the student's prep time.
  • Double-entered students should go to the event where they are scheduled to speak earliest first.
  • Extemp Contestants are allowed to use internet during their prep time.
    • A reminder on the use of Generative AI (e.g. ChatGPT). While it is allowed during prep, it cannot be used to write the speech and/or as a source. It is the duty of each coach/student to read the exact rule in the Tournament Manual.
  • Broadcasting Contestants are NOT allowed to use internet during their prep time.
  • EXTEMP PREP ROOM: H126/H130
  • BROADCASTING HOLDING ROOM: H226/H230

Judge Requirements:

Please note: To alleviate our judge issues from the past 2-3 years, the judge requirement for each team has been increased by 1. Speechwire, however, will not show that increase, so you need to add 1 to whatever Speechwire shows you. E.g. If you have 8 entries, Speechwire will show that you owe 3 judges, when you actually owe 4.

This increase is needed to ensure we have enough judges to run the tournament.

  • 1-3 entries =2 judge
  • 4-6 entries= 3 judges
  • 7-9 entries= 4 judges
  • 10-12 entries=5 judges
  • 13-15 entries=6 judges
  • 16-18 entries=7 judges
  • 19-21 entries=8 judges
  • 22-24 entries=9 judges
  • 25-27 entries=10 judges
  • 28-30 entries=11 judges
  • 31-33 entries=12 judges
  • 34-36 entries=13 judges
  • 37-40 entries= 14 judges

General Tournament Notes:

  • Judges are required to watch the Judging Video (link to be added)  prior to Saturday, March 8. The link will be placed here by Monday evening, March 3rd.
  • The judge video replaces the in-person meeting on Saturday morning. Judges will report directly to their round 1 assignment once they get notification.
  • Judges will need to bring an effective laptop or tablet to use for e-balloting.
  • All judges should be in their rooms, ready to start their round 1 by 7:55 am, March 8, 2025. Once both judges are present and there are speakers present, they should click "Start Round." They do NOT need to wait on all competitors. Some will be doubled. They DO need to make sure both judges are present before starting the round.
  • All postings will be done electronically, so please make sure your students have active Speechwire accounts. They are also strongly encouraged to subscribe to their names via Speechwire as well. This will ensure they get a text/email with details about each scheduled round. Subscriptions should be live now.
  • Resutls of rounds will be released to coaches once round 2 has all judges starting the round. This replaces the ballot room from past tournaments.
