The Mile High Tournament November 8-9th, 2024 Dear colleagues, we are thrilled to invite you back to Denver East for an exciting competition opportunity at the start of the season. There are a few updates since the last time we hosted our annual tournament, so please read carefully. Schedule Highlights: Speech will have 5 prelim rounds then break to semifinals and finals. Congress will have an AM and PM session on Saturday. Debate will have 5 preliminary rounds. Any debate entry with at least 3 wins at the end of prelims will advance to the sixth round (the first break). At the conclusion of round 6, any debate entry with at least 4 wins will advance to the seventh round (the final break). Debaters competing in the seventh round will be recognized at awards. Judges: 1 judge for every 2 debate entries 1 judge for every 6 speech entries → We will work with teams who can’t fully cover their judge quota, but tournaments need judges and that is everyone’s responsibility. Fees: $10 per Congress entry $15 per HI, DI, POE, POI, OO, INF, IX, USX, LD $25 per Duo, PF, CX Please make checks payable to “DEFT” or “Denver East Forensics Team” Address: Hosted at Denver East High School. 1600 Esplanade, Denver, CO 80206 Tab Room Access: Coaches curious about what the workings of the tab room looks like are welcome to stop by and watch how it all works and ask questions! Ballot Access: Ballots will automatically post to coach accounts as judges submit them. Please do not share results with students until after the conclusion of awards. We will post ballots to student accounts after awards have completed. Equity Commitment: We are committed to extending the joy of speech and debate to all students and programs, regardless of circumstances. If elements of our invitation pose a barrier to your participation please send us an email so we can help resolve the issue. We all get better when we all compete together. Awards: All speech finalists, round 7 debate entries, and the top 5 in each congress chamber will be recognized at awards. Semfinalist and round 6 debate entries will receive ribbons that coaches can pick up from the Tab Room upon announcement of finals. Sweepstakes following the CHSAA model will be awarded.
