An Open Letter to The Pop-Up Tournament Series,

We have been taunted for the last time. You do not have a monopoly of last-second forensics opportunities. While you serve an admirable function of filling holes in a frantically paced competition schedule, your tournaments have become too predictable. Too expected. You may be more organized, more competent, and more approachable. There’s no but.

Chaos Mond4y: Even Laster Chance will be a hybrid async/sync online tournament taking place from Monday, March 25 through Saturday, March 30, 2024.

We are so grateful to our cohosts, Houseware Insider. If you are fans of quality content, you can check out killer articles such as “Best Wall Mounted Fireplace 2024: Reviews + Buying Guide” on their website and the IE-L.

Unfortunately, Houseware Insider had to cancel their half of the swing, but they are still willing to give your post a cozy home on HousewareInsider.com. Of course, full credit goes to you, and they're happy to throw in a backlink to your original masterpiece. It’s a win-win – their audience gets awesome content, and you get some extra love. Use the promo code #livelaughlove for a 15% increase in price.

xoxo gossip girl,

The tournament formerly known as Chaos Monday

Events & Modality

The tournament will take flight in all eleven NFA events. Talk to us about LD. We're still not sure we understand the difference between IPDA.

All events except for Rank Discussion will be judged asynchronously. All collegiate teams and students are invited to attend, but we recommend that competitors submit videos for events they are actively seeking an NFA qual.

In all events with eleven entries or more, the top six entries will advance to the final round. In all events between 8-10 entries, the top 50% of entrants will advance to a final round. In events between 2-7 entries, entrants will be judged in a single-round and the top 50% of entrants will advance to a final, final round. In all events with one entry, the sole entrant will be disqualified until they provide proof they have watched Madame Web in theaters. Alone.

Novice divisions will be offered when applicable. Our tournament defines novices as a competitor that has not yet attended nationals.

Attire

As always, Chaos Monday is a ‘come as you are’ tournament. Please feel free to spontaneously record at your team meeting, coaching session, or in the middle of an at-home screening of Meg 2: The Trench.

Experimental Events

TBD: Competitors entered in this event will record three videos, with the rules of the event changing each round.

Rank Discussion: Competitors will be entered in a groupchat with no judge and decide as a collective on the ranks. The round will continue until all competitors agree on the ranks. If the competitors cannot agree on the ranks, all competitors will get a 5.

Extemp POI: Competitors will be provided with an article and will have thirty minutes to craft a POI with a minimum time of 90 seconds and a maximum time of seven minutes. The POI must include an intro and the article must be cited in the introduction.

Fixed by the Duet: Competitors will record two videos, one as a prompt and the other as a response to what was said in the first video. During competition, these videos will be randomly swapped so the judge will view the original response followed by a response from a different competitor.

The Following Events Have Been Canceled

Meg 2: The Trench Explanation: Explain the plot of Meg 2: The Trench. This event has been canceled as our team has gotten too good at it so it wouldn’t be fair.

PKD Event Description: Pitch a new event for PKD. This event has been canceled as - and this is true - every single event is at that tournament!

Subway Surfers: Competitors must give their speech while streaming Subway Surfers. This event has been canceled due to too many competitors getting hit by the Subway.

Israel-Palestine Themed LP Prompts:

Schedule: subject to change depending on entry size and/or complaints

Monday, March 25 at 8:00pm: All entries and videos are due.

Tuesday, March 26 at 8:00am: Preliminary rounds released.

Wednesday, March 27 at 8:00pm: Prelim ballots due and chaos drawing will occur

Thursday, March 28 at 8:00am: Final rounds released

Thursday, March 28 at 9:30am: live reenactment of “Birds Aren’t Real” duo from two competitors who never saw it.

By Saturday, March 30: Results Posted

We highly encourage Extemp performances to be prepped at 6:30am to enhance the experience of Extemp at NFA 2024.

Fee waivers can be provided as requested.
