LUCKY 7

Spring 2024

The Individual Events Team at James Madison University invites you and your team to attend the annual Lucky 7, to be hosted asynchronously February 19-22, 2024. Registration, judging, and final results posting will be conducted on SpeechWire. Links to all recorded performances will be due at the time of registration. More information is provided below. Due to the needs of the tournament and the limitations of the host school, entries are due earlier than standard practice, but LP prompts will be offered early the week prior to account for this earlier entry deadline and final results will be released Thursday evening.

Sincerely,
Mallory Marsh
Director of Individual Events

ENTRY INFORMATION

1.    Students may enter a maximum of six events; two duos count as two events.

2.    Entries are due via SpeechWire no later than Monday, February 19, at 3 pm EST. Entries without video links at that time will be dropped.

3.    The same event recording will be used for preliminary and final rounds. Please ensure the video is “unlisted” on YouTube rather than set to “private” so that judges can successfully view the recording. It is important that you confirm your team’s video links are accurate and accessible by the registration deadline.

4.    LP prompts will be released as a downloadable file on SpeechWire.

ENTRY FEES AND JUDGE REQUIREMENTS

1.    Entry fees are $8 per event slot.

2.    Please provide a qualified judge for every six events. All uncovered slots will incur an additional $15 fee. The tournament director reserves the right to limit the number of uncovered slots per team due to tournament needs.

3.    Any judges dropped after ballots have been released will each be assessed a $150 fee.

4.    Any judges failing to turn ballots in on time will each be assessed a $100 fee (unless arrangements have been made in advance with the tournament director).

5.    A finalized JMU invoice will be emailed directly to head coaches or team captains after the conclusion of the tournament along with payment information about how to make out checks or pay by credit card.

6.    Payments are due in the form of mailed checks or credit card payment within 30 days after final invoices are emailed (unless other payment arrangements have been approved prior).
