I would like to invite everyone to the Glades Middle School Debate Invitational on March 9, 2024.

Where: Glades Middle School 16700 SW 48th Court, Miramar, FL 33027

Registration: Registration and lunch is $15 per student.

Events: We will be offering: 3 rounds of Congress and Policy Debate. All other Debate and Speech Categories (PF, LD, EXT, OO, POEM, PROSE, INFO, DEC, DUO, DI, HI, IMP) will have 4 rounds.

Event-Sign Up: 5 per speech and debate events and 10 for Congress. We will have a waitlist.

Topics: We will use March topics in all Debate events. Notice the change in wording of the PF topic from ratify to sign. This change can be found on the NSDA website.

Congress Legislation: We will use the March legislation. There will be a final round. The legislation for finals can be found in the download section on SpeechWire.

Impromptu Topics: Will be released at to tournament.

Extemp Topics: Foreign Policy, Europe, U.S Economy, and Africa

Deadlines: Registration for new entries will close on Monday, March 4th at 5:00 pm. If you need to make drops or name changes you will have until noon on Thursday, March 7th.

Judges: Each school is required to provide 1 judge for every 5 students entered in a speech or congress event and 1 judge for every 2 students in a debate event. Please make sure you have the judges required to help make this event run smoothly. Schools will be charged if they do not bring enough judges.

Food: Students will be given 2 slices of pizza and a bottle of water. We will have concessions for sale all day as well. Lunch will be provided for judges as well, free of charge.  We will have snacks and drinks for the judges in the judge’s lounge.

Awards: We will do awards for 1st - 5th place. Parents are invited to attend our awards ceremony.

Tentative Time Schedule:

Team Arrivals: 8:00 – 8:15 – West Entrance bus loop

Team and Judge Registration: 8:00 – 8:15 – Cafeteria

Judges Meeting: 8:30 am - Media Center

Round 1: 9:00 am

Lunch: Noonish - Cafeteria

Awards Ceremony: 2:30ish pm - Cafeteria

Miscellaneous Info:

Please have all judges, parents, coaches, etc. park in the west parking lot (bus loop)

Judges should report to the media center when they arrive to check in.
