THE FINAL COUNTDOWN INVITATIONAL

AT ODESSA HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT INVITE

Dear Coach and Team,

The Odessa Chapter of the National Speech and Debate Association cordially invites your team to enter The Final Countdown on February 23rd & 24th, 2024. This will be an Open invitational, meaning students of all experience levels are welcome to attend and compete.

Odessa will host Open divisions of the following events: Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Policy Debate, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Program Oral Interpretation (POI), Prose Reading, Poetry Reading, Storytelling, LIVE Radio, International Extemp, U.S. Extemp, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, and Congressional Debate.

Policy, LD, & PF debaters will have four rounds of preliminary competition, breaking to semifinals and finals on Saturday. (possibility of 6 rounds straight for CX debate if entries are low)

Individual Events will have two preliminary rounds, breaking top 6 to finals. Congress will have two preliminary sessions breaking to a final Super Session.

Please note that as per MSHSAA regulations, laptops and all other electronic devices are permitted; HOWEVER, Odessa does not guarantee power sources.  Students using electronic devices in classrooms may not unplug any electronic device in order to utilize an electrical outlet.

Each school is responsible to provide a minimum of 1 judge and an additional judge for every 8 entries.

(Any additional judges will be graciously accepted, as this will be our second time hosting in over five years and will need all the help we can get with recruiting.)

Registration will be on Speechwire. Entries are due Friday, February 16th at 4:00pm

Due to our school’s small size we will be limiting entries to only two per event. Any additional entries will be waitlisted until we determine if space is available.

If you have any questions please email or call Mike Brown at (816) 633-5533 ext. 5130 (school) or (480) 580-5898 (cell).

Sincerely,

Mike Brown                                  Samantha Hall
