We warmly invite your team to the Northfield Raider Speech Invitational on March 16th, 2024!
Back by popular demand, we'll again offer "Creative Duo" as a category; details below!
Location: Northfield High School, 1400 Division St. So., Northfield, MN 55057
Events: all 13 MSHSL categories, plus "Creative Duo"! The rules are as follows: Two speakers from the same team; Must be written by at least one of the speakers performing it; Humorous or serious in nature; Speakers *may* look at each other and touch each other; 5 minute time limit. This category can be a speaker's double entry (or triple entry, if the speaker believes they can manage the time).
Entries: Students may double-or triple enter in all categories; only one of the two or three events may be a draw category.
Fees: $7.00 per entry, Duo and Creative Duo each count as one entry. Schools will be charged fees based on entries as of March 13 at 5pm, regardless of subsequent drops. Any adds, if workable, will be charged the $7.00 entry fee.
Judges: Each school should provide one judge for every six entries or fraction thereof.
Draws and Discussion: Extemporaneous Reading draws, Storytelling draws, and Discussion tasks-- all selections and topics are “fair game”.
Concessions: lunch concessions will be available for sale for students; a continental breakfast and light lunch will be provided for judges and coaches.
Schedule:
7:45am-8:30 am: Registration
8:30am Draw meeting in Media Center
8:45am Draws begin for Round One
9:00am Judges’/Coaches’ meeting in S104
9:15am Round One
10:15am Draws begin for Round Two
10:45am Round Two
11:45am Draws begin for Round Three
Finals will begin as soon as possible,
followed by Awards (estimate) in the auditorium
Registrations are due by Wednesday, March 13 at 5:00pm on SpeechWire; this is the official registration number to use in determining entry fees. Please note that we have a fairly small school, and thus can only accommodate a limited number of entries. Our tournament tends to fill, so please register as early as is feasible.
