The Lower Columbia College Fighting Smelt are proud to invite you and your forensics program to attend the 51^st Annual Michael Dugaw Smelt Classic. The tournament is being held over the second weekend of February this season to accommodate community interests.

This year’s Smelt Classic will be an in-person event, held on our beautiful campus in Longview, WA. We will be offering all eleven AFA speech events, as well as the supplemental event Editorial Commentary. We will also offer at least IPDA debate, and are open to offering additional debate formats if there is community interest and can get support with running the events.

Novice, Junior, and Open divisions will all be available in all events at the time of registration. Tournament staff reserves the right to collapse divisions based on the distribution of entries and the availability of rooms and judges. In collapsed events, we will celebrate the successes of novice and junior participants by acknowledging top competitors at our awards ceremony.

Our tournament will also serve as the Washington State Championship Tournament. The highest placing students in each event who represent colleges and universities in Washington state will be identified as State Champion. We will acknowledge championship programs in two-year and four-year college divisions. This is a new concept, and we hope it will be a great way to highlight our great programs.
