Greeting Coaches!

We would love to have you join us again (or for the first time) for a weekend of Novice competition.  We will host our annual Novice Invitational Tournament this November 18^th at West Chicago Community High School.  This tournament is for first-year speakers only.  Our happy little competition will have three preliminary rounds and no final.  Prelim Round Ranks will determine award standings.  Ideally, teams will complete the tournament and head to awards around 2:00 pm. 

The exact schedule is included but, as always, subject to change up until the day of the competition.  I will keep you posted were that to happen.  This tournament is an excellent opportunity for teams to send their new competitors who want to get another rep in and engage in some friendly, early-season competition.  I want to open this up to any team wishing to participate and cap entries at two per event to begin.  I need to ensure interest and proper numbers before granting more extensive programs a third entry.  You can request, but no promises until closer to the actual date.  So, please enter your acceptance and numbers as soon as you can.  Rest assured, you will be greeted warmly, treated royally, and be involved in some good novice competition. 

Concessions will be available in the cafeteria throughout the day.  Have buses drop your teams off and enter through door “A” on the West side of the school, then walk straight down that hallway to registration.  Schedule, Entry Fees, and Expectations are as follows:

RULES:

• FIRST-YEAR speakers only!
• IMPROMPTU: Prompts will consist of Quotations, Phrases, and Proverbs.
• EXTEMP: Students will prepare two times (rounds one & two) during the day.  Third Round, they can choose from their first two preps.  Competitors will have 30 minutes of preparation time.
• RADIO: All three rounds will use a radio script prepared at home the night before.  Remember to include news, sports, weather, and a commercial spot.  News should be no more than 24 hours old.  Competitors should bring their materials for timing their broadcast.

SCHEDULE:

7:30 AM - Registration (Tournament scheduled in the morning before prep)

8:15 AM - Round One- Extemp. Prep.

8:45 AM - Round One- All Events

10:00 AM - Round Two- Extemp. Prep.

10:30 AM - Round Two- All Events

11:45 AM - Lunch and snacks available for purchase

12:00 PM - Round Three- All Events (no extemp. prep.)

2:00 PM - Awards (If not sooner.)

1-14 Entries $125

15-28 Entries $150

29-42 Entries $175
