Good Morning, Afternoon, or Evening!

You and your team are cordially invited to The “Aquinas Catholic 4N6: Baker's Dozen” Tournament on Saturday February 17th, 2024 in David City!

Registration: The registration/adds deadline will be 7 p.m. on Wednesday February 14th, 2023.

Entry drops may be submitted any time before 7 a.m. on the 17th.

Judge Drops must be submitted by Thursday Feb. 15th by 9:00p.m., to avoid drop fees.

Judge drops after 9 p.m. on the 16th will be assessed a $12.00 fee.

Competition: All events will have 2 preliminary rounds and finals.

We will have at least one judge in each prelim round. In the past we have had 3 prelim judges, but I will need to have enough judges to do that, so please bring judges!

There will be 2 judges in finals, as there would be at a conference or district competition.

As always we will make an effort to use hired judges before coaches when assigning rounds.

We only offer Varsity Divisions. Feel free to enter JV competitors as Varsity, but we will not separate JV into their own division.

Events: We will be offering 10 NSAA State Competition events and Impromptu Speaking.

The top 6 finalists in every event will receive medals this includes Duet and OID groups.

Finals: Depending on Numbers in the events we will take the top 12 to finals, except in OID and IMP which will be 8 and 6 respectively.

We will follow NSAA Guidelines for all events and sweepstakes tabulation.

Prelim rounds will include the Average Opponent Rank as a tie-breaker to determine finalists in each event.

In an effort to give our students more experience, Aquinas competitors will be allowed to break into finals, as individuals. They will not be in the running for a team sweeps trophy.

Our goal is to have a tough but friendly competition, that takes a little bit off pressure of the season and offers feedback that you can use going forward.

We will do all that we can to help every competitor to do their best.

Registration will begin at 7:15a.m. on the 17th. There will be a general meeting at 8:15a.m.

I love being done on time or early, so if we can tighten this schedule at all every effort will be made!

Round 1:

Flight A: 8:30a.m.  (IMP, INF, OID, PER, POE, POI)

9:00a.m. Extemp. Draw

Flight B: 10:00a.m. (DI, DUET, ENT, EXT, DI)

Round 2:

11:30a.m. Flight A

12:00p.m. Extemp. Draw

1:00p.m. Flight B

Finals:

Extemp. draw will begin at 2:30

2:30 Flight A Finals (and Extemp. draw)

3:30 Flight B Finals

Awards as soon as possible afterwards.

Entries: The Individual NSAA Events will be limited to 4 entries, and 2 entries per group event. IMP will be limited to 2 entries. If I can bump up the caps I absolutely will!

Entries will be $8.00 per event for both individuals and groups.

If space becomes available, in an event, I will send out an email to let you know a cap has been raised, if it is at all possible.

Judges: Please provide 1 judge for every 5 entries or part of 5 entries. Each uncovered entry will be an additional charge of $15. We would really rather have your judges than your money!

Fees: All fees will be calculated by SpeechWire.

Also please, please, please make sure your judges are registered to receive information blasts from SpeechWire. Hopefully this, and completely wiping the rooms setup and redoing it will help to avoid the confusions of last year’s Ent. and Inf. “field trips”. (I hope you remember them as fondly as I do.)

We will be doing paper ballots, but I will also blast out round information to competitors and judges. That is why you are being asked for student and judge emails.

We hope to see you on the 17th of February!

Thanks,

Matt
