  • Registration will run from 7:30 to 8:15. Teams that do not check in by 8:25 or communicate with tab about their status risk being dropped from the tournament.
  • The tournament will start with a judges meet, extemp draw, and WSD Impromptu prep at 8:30 AM Eastern Time.
  • Round 1 for all events will be at 9.
  • Contestants can double at their own risk in every speech event except for Discussion. Update as of 12/9/23: We have made the decision to not allow triples for the tournament. Please plan accordingly, and thank you for your flexiblity.
  • There will be no novice competition at this meet.
  • We will offer all IHSFA speech and debate events. Sorry, no extra fun ones this year.
  • In order to give students practice for the major tournaments, in all speech events we will run three rounds, a semi-final, and a final regardless of the number of entries.
  • Congress will run two prelim sessions and a final session.
  • Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, WSD, and Policy will run 4 straight rounds, power matching rounds 3 and 4.
  • Extemp Draw is @ 8:30 AM. Students will draw for all extemp rounds.
  • Radio/Discussion format:
    • Broadcasting Format:  We will be trying something new with this category.  We will be utilizing computers to broadcast this event.  Students will still not be seen by the judges.  This is in the state format.
      • Round 1:  News Program
      • Round 2:  News Program
      • Round 3:  News Program
      • Semi Final:  Editorial (30 minutes prep)
      • Final:  Radio Program (30 minutes prep)
    • Broadcasting Topics:
      • Please be sure to include 3 news articles, one local, one national, and one international.
      • Your commercial topic needs to be about coffee. It can be the drink itself, a coffee maker, or coffee related product/brand.
      • There is no restriction on intro/outro music. Select it as you wish.
    • Discussion Format:  We will be trying something new at this tournament.  1st Round Discussion will be an impromptu topic.  Students will have 30 minutes to prepare for the round in their assigned rooms.  Each judge will oversee distributing the artifact and then giving students ½ hour to prep for the beginning of the round.  Discussion participants will report to their round at 8:30 just as Extemp.  Round 2 will be a prepared round, Round 3 will be impromptu—following the setup for round 1, Semifinals will be a prepared round, and Finals will be an impromptu round—following the setup for round 1.  The prepared round artifacts will be released at least one week prior to the tournament.
  • Please enter one judge for every fraction of 5 Speech Entries (15 entries = 3 judges, 11 entries = 3 judges, 7 entries = 2 judges, and 1 entry = 1 judge.
  • Please enter one judge for every 2 Debate Entries.  Extra judges are always appreciated.
  • We will have one judge per prelim round and three per final. We would like to have three judges per semi, but that depends on the number of judges entered.
  • World Schools topics will be announced closer to the tournament. WSD will have two prepared motions (rd 2, 3, and seminfinal) and two impromptu rounds (rd 1, final). In round 3, students will debate the opposite side of the round 1 topic.
  • Other debate events will use the January NSDA topics.
  • Congress Bills will be published closer to the tournament. We will be drawing from the January IHSFA docket.
  • Discussion artifacts will be published the Monday prior to the meet.

  • Entries will be due January 3rd @ 5pm. That is both Speech and Debate.
