Dear colleagues,

You are cordially invited to the 6th Annual Showdown! We have a great new addition to our tournament this year. We are adding a Congressional Debate Showdown on Friday, November 3! On Saturday, November 4, we will hold our annual NIETOC-bid, speech-only competition with 4 guaranteed prelim rounds, team awards, and the coveted Triathlete Award! This tournament is a collaboration of the RISE & SMART forensics programs..

Tournament Highlights & Info:

Congressional Debate Showdown - Friday, November 3 - 4:15pm-7:30pm. Registration begins at 4:00pm. There can be heavy traffic on Pena, I-70, and on our campus around this time, so please plan accordingly. We do not dismiss until 3:30, and that’s when traffic on campus is highest, so please do not show up before 3:45pm. We will try to begin Session 1 as soon as we are done with registration. We will hold 2 sessions separated by a brief dinner break with awards immediately following. 

The Saturday Showdown is a NIETOC Bid tournament. We call it “I.E. Heaven”! 4 prelim rounds for all events, finals, team awards, and the Triathlete Award! 

For the 6th straight year, we’ll be recognizing the top “triathlete” of the tournament with a special Triathlete Award for the student who performs the best that day based off the number of times they appear in finals and their placement therein. Double or triple entering is encouraged! 

Events Offered: HI, DI, POI, Poetry, Duo, INF, OO, Mixed Extemp, Impromptu

Schedule:

8:00-8:30am: Registration

8:40am: Judges’ Meeting

9:00am: Round 1

10:30am: Round 2

Noon: Round 3

1:30pm: Round 4

3:00pm: Finals

4:30pm: Awards

Doubling/Tripling Rules: Due to time, Extempers may only double enter, not triple enter. All other students may triple enter. Extempers will be given the choice of IX or USX topics before draw. 

NIETOC: We are proud to be a bid tournament to the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC), also known as the Speech Tournament of Champions. Bids can be earned in the following events: HI, DI, Duo, POI, OO, INF, and Extemp. Both of our teams have attended this national tournament in May. If you have any questions about the tournament experience, we would be happy to answer them. NIETOC will take place this year at Bellevue West High School in Omaha, Nebraska from May 10-12, 2024. Judges: 

1. All schools are asked to bring 1 judge for every 6 entries. There is a $35 fee for every uncovered judge (note: NOT uncovered entry)

2. Schools should register their judges on Speechwire. This is how we track uncovered judging fees. 

3. Please add notes on Speechwire if a judge’s time is limited and work to cover your judging quota for the duration of the tournament. (Example: 1 AM only judge and 1 PM only  judge = 1 judge per 7 entries) 

Fees and Payment:

The entry fee will be $10 per student, per event ($20 per Duo).

This tournament will be hosted at RMP-RISE HS at 18250 E 51st Ave, Denver, CO 80249. We are conveniently located off Pena Blvd and Tower Rd. in Denver.
