Hello Speech Coaches!
The Thornton Township High School Speech Team is pleased to invite you to the 39th Annual Thornton “Turkey” Tournament to be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023.  We are looking forward to a great day and are excited to run an efficient and organized tournament.
Preliminary information regarding the tournament is listed below.   The tournament will include three preliminary rounds and a final round including a next in.
Please indicate your interest by completing SpeechWire's registration by Friday, October 27th.
We look forward to seeing your team at Thornton this year.
Please keep in mind teams that host a tournament will be allowed to enter four in each event.  NO TRIPLE ENTRIES ALLOWED.  Additionally, the overall number of entries will be capped so get those in as soon as possible.
At this time, we will be offering concessions at the tournament. When we are closer to the tournament, we will be sending an email to get an estimated number of students that will be utilizing concessions.
If you should have any questions, feel free to call Brad Ablin at 708-269-9036 or Marie Wojdelski at 708-225-4129 or 708-705-0571.

Contest Rules
The Thornton “Turkey” Tournament will follow I.H.S.A. rules for all individual events with the following exceptions:
Extemporaneous Speaking: Contestants will have one 30-minute prep period. That speech will be used for both preliminary rounds. Contestants will be double-judged in the first round and single judged in the second round. Finalists will prep for a second time.
Radio Speaking: Contestants will have one 45-minute prep period. That script will be used for both preliminary rounds. Contestants will be single judged in the first round and double judged in the second round.  Finalists will prep for a second time.
Team Entry: Each team may enter two contestants per event, unless you are hosting a tournament in which teams may enter up to 4 per event.
Team scoring: Preliminary round scoring will determine team placement. The top two scoring contestants in each event will count toward your total team point tabulation.
Awards: The awards ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Individuals medals will be awarded to all finalists. Team trophies and turkeys will be awarded to the top five schools.
Concessions: Concessions will be open throughout the day in the cafeteria.  There are limited fast food options in the area.
