SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2023 BRIDGE CITY HIGH SCHOOL SMART CARDINALS BRAIN GAMES UIL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT 2690 TEXAS AVENUE, BRIDGE CITY, TX 77611 EVENT COORDINATOR ~ DANIEL AUCHENBACH / HANNAH LANDRY daniel.auchenbach@bridgecityisd.net or hannah.landry@bridgecityisd.net ~ 409.735.1600 This letter and the website at Speechwire.com (you can search the schedule or this link should take you directly to the tournament site): https://www.speechwire.com/c-info.php?tournid=14988 Entries Deadlines ➢ Registration deadline for speaking events is Friday, November 3, 2023, 5:00 pm. ➢ Registration deadline for all other events is Tuesday, November 7, 2023, 5:00 pm. ➢ All drops must be made by 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Drops made after this time will not be refunded. ● We will be offering all UIL Academic events including CX and LD debate following the UIL Academic Conflict Pattern as closely as possible with CX and LD scheduled together. ● Poetry and Prose contestants may choose the category they wish to perform. ● We hope to have 2 preliminary rounds followed by finals for both Extemporaneous and Interpretative Speaking. ● All events will follow UIL rules and guidelines including the conflict pattern as closely as possible. We are using 3rd party materials. ● There will only be one division of competition. ● Team events will be awarded for the top 6 finishers and 1st and 2nd place teams. All other events will be awarded for the top 6 finishers. ● There will be a first and second place sweepstakes trophy awarded, as well as a trophy for the top Speech and Debate and Journalism Teams. All schools will receive a copy of the tab sheets as soon as we can get them to you. ● Sponsors are expected to help with proctoring and grading the academic events. We will use paid judges for the Speaking and Writing Events. Schools with competitors in Spelling and Computer Apps must provide a grader or their tests will not be graded. ● The cafetorium will be used as holding areas for students, and concessions will be available for student purchase in the cafetorium. There are several fast food restaurants near campus. ● We will have a hospitality room set up in the Human Services classroom; please email Daniel Auchenbach or Hannah Landry with the number of adults you plan to bring by Monday, November 6, 2023. ● Contestants using computers must bring their own supplies (computer, printer, ext. chords, etc.) ● Please check this site regularly for any possible changes or cancellations. Feel free to contact us at either daniel.auchenbach@bridgecityisd.net or hannah.landry@bridgecityisd.net and we will respond as quickly as possible. Fees ● Speaking Events - $30.00 per speech entry. There are NO additional judging fees. NOTE - Speaking entries will be limited if there is a need for it. ● Journalism & Ready Writing Events - $ 15.00 per entry. Each school may enter up to 6 people in each of the Journalism Events and the Ready Writing contest. ● No limits for all other events - $ 10.00 per entry. ● Registration deadline for speaking events is Friday, November 3, 2023, 5:00 pm. ● Registration deadline for all other events is Tuesday, November 7, 2023, 5:00 pm. ● All drops must be made by 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
