Dear coaches,
You are cordially invited to the Suzanne Theisen Stow/Hudson Invitational to be held Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023.
We will offer all events EXCEPT Policy. All speech events will be hosted at Stow-Munroe Falls High School; all debate events (PF, LD, CONG) will be hosted at Hudson High School. A joint awards ceremony will be held at Hudson High School at the conclusion of the tournament.
We are proud to also be hosting middle school competition! Like the HS level, all middle school speech events are at SMFHS; all middle school debate events are at Hudson.
We have limited space so early applications will be attended to first.
Registration opens at both schools at 7:30 a.m. We ask teams driving one bus to get students at Hudson High School no later than 8 a.m. Teams should then drop off students at Stow-Munroe Falls by 8:30 a.m. The schools are approximately 15 minutes apart.
Registration at Hudson (Debate) will be in the Auditorium lobby on the first floor; teams will enter through Entrance E (the canopy entrance). Registration at Stow (Speech) will be in the Library and Media Center on the first floor; teams will enter through the main entrance.
We will begin debate rounds first at Hudson at 8:30 a.m.
   LD/PF rounds are scheduled for 8:30, 9:30, 10:45, and 12:15
Congress sessions are scheduled for 8:30 and 11.
We will begin speech rounds at Stow at 9 a.m.
Extemp draw will be at 8:30 a.m.
All speech events will be at 9, 10:30, and 12 p.m.
We encourage you to register a reasonable amount of entries and we will do our best to accommodate.
Congress will have 2 sessions using the Oct. 28 OSDA legislation.
LD/PF will run the November/December topics
Extemp Prep will be in the Media Center.
Extemp Topic Areas:
  • Congress/Biden Admin
  • 2024 Election Cycle
  • U.S. Foreign Policy
  • Europe
  • Middle East
  • U.S. Foreign Policy
We will have equity officers on site at both the speech and debate buildings. We will additionally post the QR code for the OSDA's Equity Concern form. We will also have a room available for private or personal needs, plus gender-neutral bathrooms available at each school.
FEES: $ 5.00 per person
Judges: One for every 5 in IE, one for every 2 or fraction thereof in debate, 1 for every 4 in Congress.
Awards: We will recognize the top six competitors in every event and award trophies for all six. We will recognize the top four students per chamber in Congress.
We will award the top six schools during our awards Saturday. In addition, we have a trophy for the top small school (that does not already place in the top six). A small school is defined by a school that has less than the median number of entries (13) among high school programs attending our tournament.
Lunch will be purchasable at each venue. No outside food or beverage with the exception of food allergies.
