Dear Speech Coaches:
LIVE TOURNAMENT PROGRAM is here!
You and your team are invited to participate in the Prior Lake High School Laker Speech Tournament on Saturday, February 3, 2024. We hope you will be able to join us!
We are excited that our tournament is a NIETOC bid tournament!
We are also very excited to offer IMPROMPTU this year.
The cost is $7.00 per entrant. Checks can be made to Prior Lake High School Speech. Double entries are allowed. Duo Interpretation is $7.00 per Duo.
Food: We will have concessions available to students. Stay tuned for more info!
Judges: You will need to provide one judge for every six (6) entries or fraction thereof. Uncovered judge slots will cost $90 each. Please make every effort to provide the required number of judges based on your entries prior to drops.
JUDGES PROGRAM
2024 Judges Preference Form
Entry Deadline: Please submit your initial entries by Friday, January 26. If you need to make changes, please submit drop/adds on Speechwire by Wednesday, January 31 at 3:00 PM. Changes can still be made up until Saturday morning, but all drops after Jan. 31 at 3:00 PM will not result in a change on the statement.
Draws:
Storytelling: Stories 1-15 (Per MSCA recommendations, all 15 stories will be in the draw)
ER Prose: Stories 1-12. (Students will be allowed to choose where in the story to begin their speech. They can also end anywhere within the category time limits.)
ER Poetry: 1-87
ES Topics:
Domestic: American Policies, 2024 Election, Health & Welfare, Personalities in News
International: Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas
Discussion: Tasks will come from Part I. Legacy Media and Its Impacts and II. New/Digital Media and Its Impacts (Sub-section Topics). Discussion Prompts will be posted to the Files for Download Tab on Speechwire before each round. Reminder: No Double Entering in Disco and a Draw Event *Internet is allowed during Discussion; however, WiFi access cannot be guaranteed. “Problem-solving Discussion is an effort on the part of a small group to reach a solution to a problem through informal interchange of facts, inferences, and judgments.” (Discussion Outline)
In an attempt to foster a meaningful conversation, discussants will be given a question that allows the group to explore the topic in ways that they decide. It will be up to the group to determine anything not explicitly prescribed: groups impacted, individuals and organizations involved in the solution, the criteria used to judge the severity of problems or the success of solutions, et cetera.
