We are excited that the 2023 New Jersey Speech & Debate League (NJSDL) Middle School State Championship is two weeks away! The tournament will be held in-person on Friday May 19, 2023 at Long Valley Middle School! Thank you to Ms. Christa Smith and Long Valley Middle School for hosting and thank you to Ms. Katie Burke from Randolph High School and Mr. Dave Yastremski from Ridge High School for helping coordinate a pool of NJSDL high school judges without whom this tournament would not be possible!

• Public Forum Debate **UPDATE 5/7/23** Since some students already started preparing last year’s Public Forum Debate topic as it was mistakenly copied from last year’s invitation before the 2023 topic was announced by the NSDA, we have decided to use the topic Resolved: The United States should establish a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement with Taiwan.
• Congressional Debate will use the NSDA Middle School Nationals Preliminary Docket

REGISTRATION

Registration is due by 12:00pm (noon) on Thursday, May 18, 2023 on Speechwire.com.

 

JUDGES

We are asking each middle school to supply as many judges as they reasonably can but please do not limit students from competing due to a lack of judges. We will do our best to use the pool of NJSDL students to cover judge obligations where needed. Please email rshay@princetonacademy.org if you are short on judges and if we have enough student judges we will remove the “Judge Fees” in Speechwire once registration closes. If we are able to keep the head coaches free from judging during at least one of the time slots, we would like to hold a planning meeting for next year.
