Western Slope NSDA Nat Quals Main Events

All speech events will hold 3 preliminary rounds plus 1 finals round (if at least 8 entries in the event) All debate events will hold 4 preliminary rounds plus at least 1 finals round (additional elimination rounds are not very likely but could possibly be needed) Please review the attached Coach's Guide for National Qualifying Tournaments prior to registering your students. Tabroom Registration: Register your students at Speechwire.com. Please do so as soon as possible so that we can know how many judges/rooms we will need. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. For ALL interp and prepared speech events, please make sure you include the Title and Author of the piece on the Speechwire registration page. This MUST be done before students compete. Failure to do so may result in your competitors being ineligible. For ALL interp & speaking events it is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE that you bring with you and have available if the need arises at the time of REGISTRATION:

Forms: You will need to print, fill out and sign the Single Entry Letter of Intent form for every student competing in more than one event. These must be filled out PRIOR to the meet and given to the district chair at the time of registration. Failure to produce these forms will result in your students being ineligible to compete. Please prepare paperwork ahead of time. Fees: Fees are $10 per entry for both Congress and Main Events. Fees must be paid prior to the student competing. Payable to: Western Slope NSDA, ℅ Caleb Ferganchick. Mesa County District teams may initiate a fund transfer. Ensure it is transferred to the Speech & Debate NSDA account under Central HIgh School management.
Schedule: Saturday: 7:15 AM - Registration 7:30 AM - Judge Training 7:45 AM - WAVE A, Round 1 8:45 AM - Extemp Draw 9:30 AM - WAVE B Round 1 We will continue to run rounds until we have 2 qualifiers in each event. Debate Qualifying System: Nat Quals debates will have 4 preliminary rounds and then finals using the Single Elimination Bracket system (after prelims, 1st vs last, 2nd vs 2nd to last, 3rd vs 3rd to last, and so on) until we have a clear 1st and 2nd place. Sometimes this ends up being 6 or more rounds of competition. Students need to be in the waiting area and listening for updates and new round postings. We will not hold a round trying to find a student who is missing. Topics: We will be using MARCH topics for debate Extemp topic areas will be emailed out and uploaded to Tabroom the week prior to the tournament.
Coaches ALL HANDS ON DECK All coaches will have a job. This is a large tournament with a lot of moving parts. Please plan on you and your assistant coach(s) being present to help out where it is needed.
