=The members of Discovery Canyon’s Forensics Team would like to invite you and your team to the DCC Invitational Tournament on February 4th, 2023 on Speechwire.
We will be running a wave-style tournament, including powered PF/LD debates, doubling (No doubling in PF and LD) and finals in all events (min 8 competitors in event for finals). All competitors will be held to CHSAA rules for their event(s).
General Reminder: This is the last tournament before Nat Quals for Colorado Grande and State. Judges MUST have judged once before Nat Quals to be eligible to judge there, so last chance to get that in.

Registration:
The space for our tournament is limited (a maximum of 100 competitors in each event), so please register as soon as you can. You may have up to 6 entries per competition event and competitors may register for 1 event in each wave. (If you have more than 6 entries, please email us and we will let you know if we can get them in.)
We will charge $15.00 per single entry (events) and $20.00 per Duo/PF entered in the tournament. Please make checks payable to Discovery Canyon Debate ATTN: Jeremy Beckman.
Registration will open on January 14th, 2023 and be handled through Speechwire.com. Your tournament entry fees will be based on your pre-registration numbers. Pre-registration will be closed on February 1st, 2023 at 10 PM. Your fees will be locked at that time and all adds must then be emailed to Jeremy.Beckman@asd20.org. There will be no same-day adds at this tournament. Any drops made after the February 1st at 10 PM deadline will be subject to the forfeiture of the entry fee.
NOTE: If you are running late the morning of the tournament, please call Jeremy’s cell phone (509-307- 2931) to let us know when you will be arriving. Also, please text same-day drops as soon as you know to 509-307-2931 so we can start round one ASAP. If you arrive after 7:30 AM, you may be dropped from round one.

Extemp Draw:
This will take place 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of all rounds, with the exception of round one. For round one, draw will start promptly at 7:45 AM and speaking will begin at 8:15 AM. Extemp draw is in room 508. Extemp topics will be emailed out to all teams that have pre-registered on Speechwire on Sunday, 1/29/2023.
Doubling:
Students may enter in one Wave A and one Wave B event (but they cannot double in two debate events). Extempers who double need to understand that they may lose part of their prep time if their other event goes long.
Judges:
Please help us out by bringing judges. The more judges you bring, the more smoothly the tournament will run. We pay judges $10/round. All judging ballots must be turned in within 10 minutes of a round’s completion to prepare for the next round.
Each school must provide judges based on number of competitors:
• 1 events judge covers 1-5 speech competitors
• 1 debate judge covers 1-2 debate competitors
• If you bring LD competitors, you must bring an LD judge
For each judge your team is short, you will be asked to pay a $50.00 judging fee. This is unpleasant for everyone, so please spare us all and just bring enough judges.
Debate:
PF debaters will use the February 2023 NSDA Varsity Topic:
(Resolved: In the United States, right-to-work laws do more harm than good.)
LD debaters will use the January/February 2023 NSDA Varsity Topic: (Resolved: Justice requires open borders for human migration.)
Awards:
First place winners will be awarded a large plaque and an additional themed award. Second and third place winners will receive a themed award. Other finalists will be given a ribbon.
Sweepstakes winners will receive a large, themed award with additional plaques.
Food:
We pride ourselves on our great food for judges. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided for judges and coaches. Competitors will need to bring their own food or purchase food available at our concessions stand. Fast food places are not readily available to competitors. If your students choose to use a delivery service, they need to make sure of a delivery spot for pick up. DCC staff will NOT be at the front to meet them.
For lunch, we will sell Domino’s large, single-topping pizzas for $10 each. Order them in the cafeteria between 7-8 AM.
Wifi: Our D-20 Guest Wifi network will be available for your students’ use.
School Rules:
• The tournament will be governed under the rules set forth by CHSAA and Academy School District 20.
• The Academy District 20 schools are tobacco-free, marijuana-free, and alcohol-free campuses.
• Anyone caught violating school or district rules while at the tournament will be disqualified.
• Anyone caught defacing school property will be disqualified.
• Furniture shall not be rearranged. We need to respect the teachers who allow us to use their rooms.
