The Union Grove High School Forensics Team invites your team to join us for our Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 4th at Union Grove High School. All questions regarding the information below should be addressed to Jennifer Jackowski at jackjen@ug.k12.wi.us or 262-878-2434 ext. 1253.

We will run the tournament using the WISDAA scoring rubrics.  However, as we encourage the participation of all schools, regardless of organizational affiliation, all rulings will be made to the benefit of the student.  For example, we accept a 2nd person in Demo speaking, multiple radio voices, notes/notecard/reader’s stand in categories which state the use of such is appropriate, electronic devices for Extemp. and Radio, 10- or 12-minute time limits for group events, the more specific descriptions provided by WISDAA in Special Occasion, the use of script as a prop in interp. categories, and the use of chairs/stools in Solo Acting, Group Interp, and Playacting.  If you have any speakers with special needs, please let Jen Jackowski know.

Entries: 4 entries per category.  We do NOT allow double-entries.  JV entries are welcome, but only the top 25 entries will earn points toward the team award.  Individual trophies will be given to the top three students in each category with medals for finalists.  There will be team trophies for the Top 3 large schools (17-25 entries) and the Top 3 small schools (10-16 entries).  Remember, that you must have a judge for every 5 entries.  I may have judges for hire at a cost of $100/judge.  You must notify me 2 weeks before the tournament should you need one.

Registration:  You must register for the tournament on SpeechWire.  Let me know if you have any technical difficulties (jackjen@ug.k12.wi.us).  Please have all your entries on SpeechWire by Fri., Jan. 27th.  Whatever your judge total is on the 27th based on your entries, is what you will be responsible for bringing to the tournament on Feb. 4th.  Minor edits may be made on SpeechWire until the day of the tournament!  Come Feb. 4th, you will NOT be allowed to make any changes.  All drops MUST then be texted to me at 262-930-6058.

WISDAA CHANGES TO THE USE OF ELECTONIC DEVICES: Extemp: Students may use the Internet during preparation to access support material as per the rules, but may not prepare a speech nor speak from their device.  Radio: student is expressly allowed to read/recite their radio newscast from their device as if they were reading from paper. Play Acting: rule 5 clarified pertaining allowance for actors to touch (different from Group Interpretive Reading)

Judges: The judges' lounge will be in room 146. Lunch will be offered free of charge. New this year: Judges are welcome to bring an electronic device (laptop, tablet, etc.) to judge using e-ballots. Hard copies of the critique sheets will also be available for judges to use. Elevator passes will also be available. If you have any judges with special needs, please let Jen Jackowski know.

Day of the tournament: Please do not arrive until 7:50 AM! Please ask your bus drivers to drop students off in the southern lot of the school. (Doors are located to the left of the weight room which is next to our football field.)

Food:  We will provide a limited number of lunches for students from Jimmy John's Subs (a meal deal will run at $8.00) Mead Deals will include a sub, chips, and water. Please let me know how many of your speakers will likely buy lunch so we can plan accordingly. There will also be an assortment of candy available for purchase.
