Both Sussex Hamilton’s and Arrowhead’s Forensics Teams invite you and your team to join us for our inaugural Lake Country Invitational Traveling Forensics Tournament at Sussex Hamilton High School.  We are honored to host the first tournament of the season and we are looking forward to having you in-person on our campus. The tournament will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023.

The Lake Country Invitational Tournament is a WFCA event and will follow WFCA rules (see “Rules” for allowances).

The tournament is a double entry tournament and will have limited capacity (300 total entries). If you are unable to register because we have reached capacity, we will be accepting registrations on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Rayen Elmergreen.

Entries: Your top 25 entries will count toward your team score with a maximum of 4 per category.  Additional entries are welcome.  Students are allowed to DOUBLE  enter, but triple entry is NOT allowed.  Students are NOT allowed to double enter in both extemp and radio.

Rules: All WFCA categories will be offered.  WFCA Rules will be followed for all categories; however, accommodations will be made for those students who normally compete in WISDAA events.  The tournament will offer Oratorical Declamation to 9th and 10th grade students following NCFL rules (for more information check out http://www.ncfl.org/declamation).  Please go over any rule changes with your students and judges prior to attending the meet.  Rules are available on the website www.wfcaforensics.org.

Judges: Each school must bring one qualified judge for every five entries or fraction thereof.  We have no additional judges for hire, so bringing the required amount of judges is crucial. There will be a fee of $35 for each uncovered entry. You are responsible for the number of judges that you indicate on your registration as of Thursday January 12th. All ballots and critiques will be written and submitted online. Judges must come with their own Wi-Fi enabled laptop, tablet or personal device.  No paper ballots or critiques will be distributed.

Deadlines: Please register via SpeechWire by Monday, January 9th by 7:00 pm

Teams can and should manage their own drops and adds on SpeechWire until 4:00pm Thursday January 12th. After that team fees will be locked.  (Entries dropped after this time will still be charged.) Day of tournament drops are strongly discouraged.  There will be no adds the day of the tournament.  Please call-in or text last minute drops as soon as possible on tournament day to Rayen Elmergreen at 262-366-0359 AND Dana Marklund .

Fees: Entry fees are $9.00 per individual entry and $12.00 for each group entry (Play Acting, Duo Interp, or Group Interp).  Fees will be based on your entries as of 4:00pm Thursday January 12th.  Please make the checks payable to Hamilton High School.

Awards: We are trying something new with trophies. Our teams are making a commitment to making forensics a more environmentally-friendly activity. Therefore, we are using (sanitized!) recycled, vintage, and donated trophies and medals (with new plates, of course). So while our trophies may not match as a set, we are finding a place for old trophies besides the landfill! If students would like to donate back their trophy or medal (after taking photos with it, of course) we will have a box available for them to do so! Also, if students or teams have any old trophies (the older the better!) that are lying around that they would like to donate for future use at our tournament, please get in contact with Rayen Elmergreen.

Trophies will be presented to the top three competitors in each category and medals will be awarded to the remaining finalists.  Team trophies will be awarded to the top schools in three divisions.  Large school awards will be based on team points.  Medium and small team awards will be based on team average

Use of Notes: Since this is the first tournament of the season, students are allowed to use

notes/scripts in all categories. Students will not be disqualified for use of notes/scripts, but the use is subject to judge critique.

Food: Food will be for sale for students in the cafeteria throughout the day. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for judges, coaches, and bus drivers free of charge in the judges’ lounge (teacher’s lounge) compliments of the families of the Sussex Hamilton and Arrowhead Forensics Teams.

Masking: Sussex Hamilton is a mask-optional school; therefore, we are operating as a mask-optional tournament. Students, judges, and coaches are welcome to mask at their own discretion. If students are comfortable, masks may be removed when performing. Judges will be informed to not judge on whether or not a student is performing in a mask.

Team Rooms: Teams may request a team room if needed for COVID mitigation. If you do not need a team room, students may congregate in the cafeteria. You are welcome to find any open classroom for warm-ups before preliminary rounds, if needed.

Notes:

  • Confirmations and other announcements (including parking information) will be sent out by e-mail the week of the tournament.

  • Students, coaches, and judges may enter the building through the main entrance. Paper maps will be available at the registration table near the main entrance and in the judges’ lounge (teachers’ lounge).

  • To start the tournament smoothly, each school MUST text confirming their registration by 7:30 the morning of the meet.

  • If you have any students with special needs, please contact us directly and we will be happy to make accommodations.
