We are excited to offer great competition and a fun atmosphere for competitors, coaches, and judges. The East Ridge Raptor Invitational will feature all 13 MSHSL categories plus Program Oral Interpretation. Once again this year the East Ridge Raptor Invitational is an NIETOC bid tournament.

Registration Deadline:
TEAM DEADLINE: Registration is Now Closed
ENTRY DEADLINE: Registration is Now Closed.
After Thursday at 12:00PM, drops can still be made but they will not be refunded. Please try to have you entry accurate before then.

Scheduling:

We will be site scheduling this tournament, so please make all necessary drops to your registration on Speechwire until registration closes on Saturday morning. After 7:30 AM on Saturday morning, you may text any of your drops to Tammy Trout-McIntyre (651) 587-8318.

Entry Limits:
Each Varsity category has a cap of 90 entries total.
Each Novice category has a cap of 40 entries total.
Each team has a cap of 10 Varsity and 5 Novice entries per category.

Double and Triple Entries:
Students may double or triple enter with a few exceptions:
- Students in one draw category may enter one other non-draw category.
- Students in Discussion may not double enter in a draw category.

Entry Fees:
$7.00 per entry for all categories except Duo
$14.00 per entry for Varsity and Novice Duo
Checks can be made payable to "East Ridge Speech Boosters"

Judging Requirements:
Teams are required to bring 1 judge for every 6 entries PER LOCATION. Please designate which judges you would like at East Ridge and at Lake Middle School during registration. Additional judges will be available to hire for $90.00 if teams cannot meet this requirement. Please contact Tammy Trout-McIntyre as soon as possible if you anticipate you will need to hire a judge.

Tournament Divisions:
This tournament will offer both a Varsity and Novice division. A Novice is considered someone who is in their first year as a high school speech competitor. Varsity and Novice will compete separately in prelims and Novices will have their own final round.

Tournament Format:
There will be three preliminary rounds of competition followed by a Final consisting of Varsity students who ranked 1-7 in prelims and a Next-In Final consisting of Varsity students who ranked 8-14 in prelims. There will also be a Novice Final consisting of the top 7 ranked Novice students.

Second Building:
All preliminary Novice competition (except Draw categories) will take place at Lake Middle School. All Varsity rounds and All Novice Draw Categories will take place at East Ridge High School. All final rounds (Varsity and Novice) will take place at East Ridge High School. Two shuttle buses will be provided to bring Novices to East Ridge when their 3rd rounds are completed. Please have your bus drop off students at both locations in the morning.

Paperless Tournament:
In an effort to reduce paper waste, we will be using eBallots, posting schematics electronically, and setting up a website for maps and helpful links.

NIETOC Bid Tournament:
The East Ridge Raptor Invitational is officially a bid tournament site for the National Individual Event Tournament of Champions. Students competing in Varsity Drama, Duo, Extemp. Speaking, Humorous, Informative, Original Oratory, Prose (counts as a Drama bid), or Program Oral Interpretation have the ability to earn a bid that will get them one step closer to competing at the NIETOC Tournament in Chanhassen, MN  in May 12-14, 2023. If there are enough entries in any of the NIETOC categories, we may offer a Merit and Consolation final to offer more bids. For more information visit their official website.

Extemp. Reading (Prose): Stories 1-19
Extemp. Reading (Poetry): All Poems
Storytelling: Varsity: Stories 1-12 / Novice: Stories 1-10
Discussion: Topic Areas I & II of Outline (Subsection Topics)

Discussion Tasks:
We will be distributing Discussion tasks in-round.

Concessions:
Food will be available for purchase throughout the day for students in the East Ridge Cafeteria.
There will be a limited number of snacks at Lake Middle School, but we have scheduled rounds to end early so judges and students can eat lunch at East Ridge.
