Year 8 is Great – Our Annual Invitational as a Prelude to WFCA State!

We’re excited to host our 8th annual forensics invitational and provide a preview of 2023 WFCA State!  We are holding an in-person tournament on February 18, 2023, and we invite you to participate!

We will offer three rounds of preliminary competition of all standard WFCA events, and if sufficient entries warrant, we will also offer Novice Prose and Poetry competitions (we historically have enough entries to offer robust varsity and novice competitions in both categories).

The top three finishers in all events will receive individual trophies, and we will be awarding medals to all other finalists.  We will award trophies to the top three teams in three divisions.  We will determine divisions based on entries the week of the tournament.

We are running a WFCA tournament, but we invite both WFCA and WISDAA schools to attend!

ENTRIES:  Teams may enter as many entries as they would like with up to the top 25 counting toward the team score (maximum 4 entries per category counting toward the team score).  Double entries are allowed in all categories, except Radio and Extemp entries may not enter in both categories due to scheduling constraints (but students may enter in one draw and one non-draw category, Radio and Poetry, for example).  Triple-entries are not allowed.  Note: Novice Prose/Poetry are only open to students competing in their first year in high school forensics; not their first year in the category.

RULESWFCA rules will apply in all events.  To accommodate the category differences between WFCA and WISDAA, Public Address competitors may enter as Oratory entries.  We will advise judges not to penalize speeches in Oratory that resemble WISDAA Public Address speeches.  WISDAA Demonstration students should enter Informative (one student only; 2-student Demonstrations are not allowed).  But please note, no chairs in Group Interpretation or the solo acting categories are allowed.  We will also be observing the 10-minute time limit for Group Interpretation, Informative, and Play Acting.  We will not disqualify students in the speech categories who use notes, regardless if using more than one note card.  However, the use of notes is subject to critique.  If you have any questions about which category to enter your WISDAA students in, please reach out.  We will be happy to walk you through it.

JUDGES Please provide one qualified judge for every five entries or fraction thereof.  If you are short on judges, you may hire one of our independent extra judges at a rate of $125/judge.  You must provide the number of judges you indicate on your original entry as of February 18 at 10:00 A.M. and any additional judges to accommodate any late adds.  We will be using electronic balloting, which requires your judges to come equipped with a laptop/tablet that has Internet access and a Speechwire account.  If this is an issue for your judges, please contact us ahead of time so that we may accommodate.

REGISTRATION DEADLINETuesday, February 14 at 5:00 P.M. via Speechwire.com.  Coaches should manage drops on Speechwire through 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 17.  Entry fees will apply to any drops after this deadline.

CONFIRMATION:  We will send you a confirmation e-mail the week of the tournament.  Each team will need to confirm their entries with us via text by 7:15 A.M. on Saturday morning so we can accommodate any last-minute changes while keeping the tournament on time!  We will only allow day-of adds if competition space and schedule availability allow.

FEES:  $10 per individual entry and $15 for each group entry (Duo, Group Interpretation, and Play Acting) as of your team’s registration on Speechwire through 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 17.  Please make checks payable to Oshkosh North Forensics.  Registration fees will still apply to any entries dropped after 10:00 A.M. on Friday.

FOOD:  We will provide a complimentary breakfast and lunch to judges and coaches.  Students will be able to purchase breakfast and lunch items.  We will have more specific menu information closer to the tournament.

ACCESSIBILITY:  Please let us know if any students or judges require special accessibility needs, and we will be happy to accommodate.
