Penn High School Speech Tournament
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Indiana. View manager contact information Hello Coaches,
You and your team are invited to the Penn High School Speech Tournament to be held on January 28th, 2023. Friendly reminder that all times posted are Eastern Standard Time. The later start time is intended to help those traveling from the Central Time Zone. Additionally, we will be hosting the Northwest and Northeast Indiana District Debate in conjunction with the speech tournament. For those interested in keeping their debaters sharp for State Debate the following weekend, we will also be offering Congress and World Schools Debate in addition to all ISSDA events. We will be offering a single open division this year.
Registration will run from 8:30 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. There will be a judges' meeting scheduled at 9:00 a.m. with Round 1 scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. Door A is under construction, but is scheduled to be finished by the time this tournament comes around. For now, plan to have your teams arrive through that door, which will be on the corner of Bittersweet and Jefferson with a nice brand new overhang. Stay tuned for details in case construction is behind schedule.
Please provide 1 judge for every fraction of 5 entries for speech (6 entries = two judges and so on). Extra judges are always appreciated, and if any are willing to judge debate if needed, even better! We will be using e-ballots, so please instruct judges to bring an electronic device. If this is an issue, please contact me in advance and I can provide a loaner chromebook from the school.
Entries will be due by 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25th and judges will be due by 8:00 p.m. Thursday the 26th. Drops and Judge Adds will be available until Friday afternoon. Students are allowed to double enter according to ISSDA Rules. Unfortunately, tripling will not be allowed at this tournament.
Files for Discussion and Broadcasting will be posted by 4:00 p.m. Monday January 23rd. Congress Docket and World Schools Motions will be released in the files for download by January 9th.
There will be four rounds- 3 prelims and a final. Ribbons will be awarded to the top 6 competitors in each event. Sweepstakes Trophies will be awarded to the Top 5 schools.
Pizza will be available for students during lunch. In addition, there will be snacks and drinks available for purchase. Please encourage your students to purchase concessions to help with the cost of hosting. There will be a coaches'/judges' lounge with complimentary lunch and snacks available.
