Dear Speech Coaches:

You are invited to participate in the Redwood Valley Cardinal Junior High Invitational on Monday, March 6th. This is a 3-round, in-person tournament without finals for students in grades 7-9.

Schedule

4:00 - Round 1 Draws

4:30 - Round 1

5:15 - Round 2 Draws

5:45 - Round 2

7:00 - Round 3 (repeat draw from Round 1 or Round 2)

8:15 - Awards

Registration, Adds, and Drops

Students may participate in any of the 13 MSHSL-sanctioned categories. There is no cap on the number of students who can attend and participate. As this is a Junior High tournament, double entries are allowed but not encouraged.

Registration is due in SpeechWire by Friday, March 3rd at 5:00 pm. Judges will be locked in at that time. Changes can be made to a team’s entry until Monday, March 6th at 12:00 pm. After this time, drops will be allowed but not refunded. Any changes after this time should be communicated to the tournament manager via phone or email.

Please make sure that all of your speakers and judges have a live.speechwire.com account set up and accessible to them prior to Monday afternoon.

Draws

Draws will be conducted live. Speakers will draw for Round 1 and Round 2 but will repeat a selection for Round 3. Ranges for cuttings and Discussion tasks will be sent out closer to the tournament date.

Judges

Please bring 1 judge for every 6 entries or fraction thereof. Judges should be available for all rounds and for any category assigned. If you are bringing reliable upperclass students, please enter their competition event(s) in the notes on SpeechWire to be blocked from judging competitors in the same category.

There will be VERY few judges available for hire. If you need to hire one, please let us know ASAP to coordinate. The cost of an uncovered judge is $75.

We will plan to use electronic ballots and critiques at this tournament. If necessary, we will offer paper ballots and critique sheets to judges. Please let us know if any of your judges need to use paper materials. With online ballots, all critiques must be submitted prior to the end of the tournament.

$6.00 per entry, $12.00 per Duo. No team fees.

Concessions

Concessions will be available for students throughout the night. A snack and dinner will be provided for coaches and judges in the Judges’ Lounge.

Awards

Individual awards will be presented to speakers who place in the top 6 of their category. Blue and red ribbons will be awarded to students who are next out or two out of placing.
