You are invited to the annual Sauk Rapids-Rice High School Speech Tournament, SPEECH MADNESS on Saturday, March 4, 2023.  

We are gearing up to do an all in-person meet.

Masking is at your discresion.

We will be hosting all 13 MSHSL events.  Back this year is our ‘just for fun’ Improv-Duo category.  In this category will once again give Duo contestants a setting (like an elevator), and each will be given a line they must not look at until they choose to read it. Feel free to send an email with any additional questions you have about the event.
 

For the truly ambitious, TRIPLE entering is allowed (your third category needs to be Duo Improv)

 _EXCEPTIONS 

• DISCUSSION: Double entry only. You may not be in Disco and any of these catagories ExRead, ExSpeak or Storytelling.  Your Prep and/or Speaking time will not be moved!

• NO DOUBLE DRAW CATEGORY ENTRIES exception is the Improv-Duo-Acting. (You can only be entered in one of ER, ES or Storytelling) Your Prep and/or Speaking time will not be moved! 

There will be three preliminary rounds of competition, and Finals in all categories.  

We will offer awards to all 7 Finalists.

Next-In Finals if over 30 in any category except Impov-Duo. (Ribbons to 6 Next-In Finals)

Team sweepstakes trophies will be awarded; 3 Large schools,3 Middle size school, and 3 Small size school.

In addition to the regular team awards, we will also award our Quality Award -- which will honor the team with the most strength relative to size. This award is calculated by dividing total points by the total number of entries.  We look forward to honoring our Minnesota Speech Community!

AWARDS: Medals for 1st-8th and Ribbons for Next-In and Honorable Mention

Team Awards

REGISTRATION: $7.00 per Entry Make Checks Payable to Sauk Rapids-Rice High School - Speech (6) Per Category – Both Duo Categories Count as (1) Entry DOUBLE ENTRIES WILL BE ALLOWED

FiINALS: 7 deep and NEXT-IN: 6 deep (If there is a tie for 7th going into finals, there will be 8 in finals. If there is a tie for Next In 6th there will be 7)

JUDGES: Please bring (1) Judge per (6) Entries $95.00 charge for uncovered entries.

Please inform Judges they should plan to judge finals and must stay until all finals are posted.

NOTE: If the rounds are unbalanced you may judge your own students. However, we will do all that we can to avoid this situation.

DRAW CATEGORIES: **All Categories will have 30 minutes to Prep starting at 8:30 am **Storytelling will draw from ALL Stories on the MSHSL list **Extemp Reading will draw from ALL MSHSL Story/Poetry lists **Extemp Speaking Topics will include News Events beginning in January **Discussion Topic: To Be Announced Closer to Tournament Date.

IMPROV-DUO-ACTING: This is not a draw category persay. Just go to the room asigned when duo partners are able. Judges will be asked to stay until the end of the round.

CONCESSIONS: We will have Concessions for all participants. GREEK CRAVINGS IS COMING!!!

We will also have Complimentary Lunch for all Coaches/Judges.
