Events available: 

  • Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, Policy, World Schools Debate and Congress. 
  • We will offer both Novice and Varsity divisions. (Note that some events may be combined based on registration numbers.)
  • The debate tournament will have 4 rounds. Rounds 3 & 4 will be power matched. 
  • We will have ribbons and trophies for team sweeps. 
  • Please see the BNI / CPHS Speech Extravaganza for speech events available at this tournament. 

Registration:

  • Entries are due in Speechwire by Friday, October 28th. 
  •  Drops may be made via Speechwire until midnight on Friday, November 4.
  • After that time, please text 219-323-5263 or email Heidi at hmarek@cps.k12.in.us.   Entries are capped at a total of 40 per team. 

Note: To register for Speech events, please register on the separate BNI / CPHS event page in Speechwire. You may only register for Debate here.

 

Judges:

  • Please bring one judge for every 4 debaters or fraction thereof (3 PF teams=2 judges). Congress=1 judge per 4 entries/fraction thereof.
    • For Congress, we are seeking coach volunteers to serve as Parliamentarians. 
  • We are using e-balloting, please bring an electronic device. Please help judges activate Speechwire accounts. 

Location/Building/Parking:

  • Crown Point High School is located at 1500 S. Main Street in Crown Point. We are on Central time.
  • Bus Parking  is on the North part of the building, off of Burrell Drive. This is also marked as the construction entrance. Enter through Door N7 or N8. Additional parking is available via the main entrance on Main Street. 
  • Please check in at the main entrance lobby. Located next to the cafeteria. 
  • Our school is currently under construction. This creates some limitations in parking and access to certain parts of the school. Please inform students to NOT enter construction zones for their safety!!!!
  • Student area is in the cafeteria. Due to space limitations we cannot offer individual team rooms at this time. 
  • Tab Room is in room D133. Next to the “D” Learning Commons entrance. 
  • Judges lounge is in room D128. 
  • World Schools Prep (and Extemp prep) will be in the Learning Commons (library.) 

 

Schedule:

  • Final Registration is from 7:15 - 7:45AM 
  • 8:00AM -  Congress Round 1  /  World Schools Prep
  • 9:00 AM - Round 1 - PF, LD, Policy, Worlds (Impromptu Round)
  • 10:15AM - Round 2  - PF, LD, Policy, Worlds (Prepared Round) 
  • 11:30AM - Round 3 - PF, LD, Policy, Worlds (Prepared Round) 
  • 12:00 - Congress Round 2 
  • 1:00PM - World Schools Prep 
  • 2:00PM - Round 4 - PF, LD, Policy, Worlds (Impromptu Round) 
  • 3:45PM - Awards (anticipated)

Concessions/Food:

  • Concessions are available for students in the cafeteria. Lunch is provided for judges, coaches and bus drivers in the judges lounge. 
  • Please bring water bottles. Our fountains have been switched to bottle fillers. 

 

Resolutions / Motions / Bills: We will follow all ISSDA rules and restrictions. 

  • Lincoln-Douglas  November topic  - Resolved: The People’s Republic of China ought to prioritize environmental protection over economic growth.
  • Public Forum November topic - Resolved: The United States’ strategy of Great Power Competition produces more benefits than harms.
  • Congress - We will use selections from the November/December docket - Bills #1,4,6,7,8, 9. Look in the files for download for a copy. Chambers should attempt to debate 3 bills within each session. 
    • Varsity chamber may elect their P.O. 
    • Please email P.O. nominations for the novice chamber to Heidi at hmarek@cps.k12.in.us
  • World Schools - Rounds 2 & 3 Prepared topic: Resolved: This house prioritizes environmental protections over economic growth. 
    • Rounds 1 & 4 are impromptu rounds, with a different topic each round.
    • No electronics allowed for prep or during rounds. Students should write out notes and speeches on paper. They should use printed copies of speeches in prepared rounds. 
    • Students may use 2 reference books for impromptu rounds.
    • Students will have 1 hour prep per impromptu round. 
  • Policy -  Both Novice and Varsity topic:  Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity.
    • Novice Policy Topic Areas:
      • Artificial Intelligence: Restrict development and/or use of Lethal Autonomous Weapons (LAWs)
      • Biotechnology: Ban the use of germline genetic engineering in humans
      • Biotechnology: Substantially increase funding for vaccine research
      • Cyber: Ban offensive cyber operations
    • Restrictions:
      • No counter-plans
      • No Kritiks
