Viking Varsity Challenge
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Illinois. View manager contact information
Dear Speech Coach,
Please accept this invitation to attend the William Fremd High School Viking Varsity Challenge on Saturday, November 12, 2022. The tournament will be a standard in person three round plus finals tournament. We do have a limited number of rooms, so registration will be closed once we reach the limit of students that we can comfortably accommodate. I will post a tentative schedule in the speechwire files, but I am hoping it will change to be 3 rounds in 3 time slots.
ENTRY : You may enter up to three competitors in each event, but may also request extra entries. Requests for extra entries should be emailed to Katie Giegler (kgiegler@211.org) and should be added to the speechwire waitlist. Extra entries will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis and preference is always extended to those who have allowed extras for our team. Extra entries will be admitted at additional fees, and teams permitted extra entries will be expected to provide additional judges. If you would like extra entries please request them ASAP.
JUDGES : Each team should provide one judge for every six entries in the competition. A full team is expected to have five judges, and teams with additional entries should bring an additional judge following the 1 judge per each 1 to 5 entries ratio. This is absolutely necessary for the success of the tournament.
FEES : The entry fee for 1-14 entries is $75. A team entry fee of 15-28 entries (2 per event) is $150. A team entry fee for 29-42 competitors (3 per event) $200. Additional entries after 42 would result in a total fee of $225
Rules and Preparation
Radio : Prep will be at the tournament, in the Lirbary. There will be two 45 minute preps for the preliminary rounds and one prep for finals. Students may choose either prelim prep for the third round.
Extemp : Students will prep for 30 minutes (as per the rules in IHSA) in the Library. There will be two preps for the preliminary rounds and one prep for finals. Students may choose either prelim prep for the third round. Please provide 10 topics by November 10, 2022.
Impromptu : We will be following the IHSA format.
Time : There will be no official penalty for time (except in radio which will follow IHSA rules). Judges may consider it as part of the criteria for ranking.
Awards : All individuals in the final rounds will receive awards. Top 3 team scores, based on prelims, will win team trophies.
Remember that registration will close if we reach a maximum number of students so please RSVP ASAP. We look forward to seeing you and are planning an exciting day for both you and your competitors!
Sincerely,
Katie Giegler and the Fremd Coaching Staff
