Welcome to the Viking Invitational hosted by Ms. Eloise Findlay and the Lauderdale Lakes MS Debate Team!

This will be a Middle School tournament on January 28th, 2023.
 
Registration for NEW ENTRIES will close on TUESDAY, January 24th at 12am. Changes (drops or name changes) can be made until 7am on Jaunary 28th, the day of the tournament. Any changes after that, please text Eloise Findlay: 954.309.9632 the school name, student who is dropping, and their event.

Fees:  

  • $15 per student (lunch included) 

  • $0 judge's fee 

  • $0 judge meal fee 

Snacks will be available for purchase

Registration will take place from 7:15am-8:00am.
 
Round 1 will start at 8:30am. All events will have 4 rounds other than Congress (2 prelim rounds and a final round).
 
For PF, the SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER topic will be used - Resolved: The United States Federal Government should substantially increase its investment in high-speed rail.
 
For LD, the NOVICE topic will be used - Resolved: Civil disobedience in a democracy is morally justified. (Please note that we are NOT using the September/October "single-payer universal healthcare" topic).
 
For Policy Debate, the 2022-23 topic will be used - Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity. In addition, all teams MUST use the Novice Policy Packet. The Novice Policy Packet can be accessed at http://www.debatecoaches.org/

Since the September MAST was cancelled and the legislation went unused, Congress legislation will be the September legislation from the DebateBroward fall legislation packet. If they finish the 4 September bills, they will move on to the October bills. The DebateBroward legislation for the fall semester was emailed to all coaches. It is also accessible electronically here under the "Files for Download" section.
