Hello to everyone in the Bi-SubSection 2 Speech Region:

The coaches and students of Chatfield look forward to hosting your team for the Bi-Subsection 2 Speech Tournament on Monday, April 3rd 2023

Please read the information carefully and contact me with any questions so that we don't have trouble the day of the tournament. The tournament will be held at Chatfield High School, 205 Union St. Chatfield, MN  55923

Needed the day of the tournament:

Scripts and ISBN/Website Verification:
Please remember, as you are preparing your students for Sub-Section competition that  each school will be required at check-in to submit copies of students’ scripts (including introductions and source citations) for Serious Interpretation of Drama, prose, poetry, Humorous Interpretation of Literature and Duo Interpretation.  Submitted scripts must include citation of original sources from which the selections were taken.  Citations can mean the ISBN number or website from which the material was gathered. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.  Please fill all requested information on the provided form for efficient collection either ISBN numbers, or source citations for "non-published" material.

Community Standard Form
All of you MUST  go to the MSHSL (www.mshsl.org) web page and print out the Community Standards Form.  You will be required to turn in a signed copy at registration; even if you have already submitted one to the MSHSL office, you must submit another one at registration time.  If you do not turn in a copy at the time of registration your team will be dropped from the competition.

Tournament Fee
Section 1A has set the participation fee for the Subsection tournament at 10.00 per entry (Duo Interpretation counts as 1 entry).  Please bring a check (do NOT mail it) made out to Section 1A for the number of students you initially registered. Unfortunately, if there is not a check in my hand at the time of registration, your team will not be able to compete.

Registration
The tournament will be run on Speechwire.com.  All entries must be added through Speechwire.  If you are unsure of how to enter the material please e-mail me or contact me regarding registration.  REMEMBER THERE CAN ONLY BE 4 PER CATEGORY FROM EACH SCHOOL!
-
Speaker’s First and Last Name
Speaker’s Title and Author (Excluding Draw and Discussion Categories of course) YOU WILL NEED TO GO TO PIECE REGISTRATION ON THE HOME PAGE IN ORDER TO ENTER THIS INFORMATION.

Drops and Adds
Registration deadline is Wednesday, March 30th, 2023 at 3:30 p.m.  There can be no adds after the 3:30 p.m. registration window has passed.  The number registered by your team at the deadline will be the number I will be expecting to collect.

Drops can be done through Monday.  Before you leave the parking lot of your school please update your drops using Speechwire and  text (or call) me to confirm your entry as current with competitors on the bus.  My cell is 507.319.9161. Texting is easier and faster but I will answer a call if I can.

HEAD COACH MSHSL TRAINING:
Please remember that all Head coaches are REQUIRED by the MSHSL League to complete all three training requirements on the Coaches Clipboard prior to the Sub-Section Tournament.  If present, complete the annual Speech Rules Interpretation that is also found on the Coaches Clipboard.  Speak to your Activities Director if you are not sure how to register for this.  Any Assistant Coaches must also complete this training prior to Sub-Section tournament and it is the responsibility of the Activities Director and Head Coaches to ensure that their Assistant Coaches are properly trained.

TIMERS
Schools are asked to please provide 1 adult timer for every 6 entries.  These should not be student timers.  Also, please plan to bring your own stopwatches. We prefer that timers do not use cell phones as a stopwatch to avoid distractions and lower the risk of disruption. Timers will also serve as room managers.
