Dear Colorado Coaches,
The Rocky Mountain-South NSDA District happily invites you to participate in the Rocky Mountain-South Novice tournament on Saturday, October 22nd at Golden High School. This tournament is open to ALL schools, including those not members of the Rocky South NSDA district.
Events: HI, DI, Duo, POE, POI, OO, INF, USX, IX, PF, LD, CX, and Congress.
“Novice”: Please use your own judgment as to who qualifies as a novice. A student who attended one tournament last spring but now is ready to join the team is probably a novice. A student who has forensics experience is not. Generally speaking, competitors should be attending one of their first tournaments.
Schedule: Registration: 8-8:30 Round 1 - 9am Round 2 - 10:30 Round 3 - Noon Awards - ASAP
Fees & Judges: Fees are $7 an entry. Please bring as many varsity students to judge rounds as possible. 1 varsity student judge for every 2 debate entries, 1 for every 6 speech entries. If these requests are a barrier to your participation, please reach out so we can create a solution.
Judge Training for New Judges: The Rocky South NSDA district will be offering a free judges clinic to any new, adult judges you have joining your program this year. Please contact Tammie Peters (tampeter1@yahoo.com) with any questions.
Debate Topics: Lincoln-Douglas Debate – 2022 September/October Topic Resolved: The United States ought to implement a single-payer universal healthcare system.
Public Forum Debate – 2022 September/October Topic Area: Environmental Infrastructure Resolved: The United States Federal Government should substantially increase its investment in high-speed rail.
Policy Debate – 2022-2023 Topic Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity.
Novice Policy Case Limits: -Artificial Intelligence: Restrict development and/or use of Lethal Autonomous Weapons (LAWs) -Biotechnology: Ban the use of germline genetic engineering in humans -Biotechnology: Substantially increase funding for vaccine research -Cyber: Ban offensive cyber operations -No Kritiks or counterplans are allowed
Congress: The docket will be released in early October, roughly two weeks before the tournament.
