Kokomo High School Speech Tournament
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Indiana. View manager contact information Coach and Speakers,Welcome to Kokomo High School Speech Tournament on Nov. 12th, 2022. The meet will be held Kokomo High School 2501 S Berkley, Kokomo, IN 46902. Doors open at 7:30 am. All judges and coaches please report to the Faculty Dining for a meeting at 8:20 am. Students can sit in our cafeteria. Judges bring a laptop or other electronic device for e-ballots. We plan on starting by 9:00 am for the 1st round for all events. Extemp Prep will be at 8:30 am DIRECTIONS AND PARKINGBusses may drop off at Door 1 (Faces Lincoln Road, enter off of Berkley) and then park in the west parking lot next to the soccer fields. If you are driving an activity bus or separate car, please feel free to park in the south lot. REGISTRATION INFO AND DEADLINEAll Registration will be done on www.speechwire.com. No emails, faxes or paper entries will be accepted. We strongly encourage that entries be made as early as possible (like right now, so you don’t forget). Registration will be locked (meaning no adding of entries can be added) on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022, at noon. Coaches will be able to make name changes and such until Friday, November 11th, 2022, at Noon. Schools must bring 1 judge for every 5 students. If you have 6 students = 2 judges. SPEECH TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE*Update 10/31 -Congress and Declamation have been added into the tournament. Congress bills 1, 3, 5, 6, and 10 from the Nov/Dec Congress Docket from ISSDA will be debated. We will have novice and varsity of every event in accordance with ISSDA (except no declamation). If we don’t have enough students for both novice and varsity they will be combined. Extemp may also be combined if we don’t have enough competitors. Dress code is competitive attire. All events will go 4 straight rounds. STUDENTS MAY USE SCRIPTS or notecards IN ALL EVENTS. We will follow the rules established for ISSDA with the following exceptions: DOUBLING RULES
If entries in certain events are small, we will combine events in the following manner: · Drama and Humor · Informative and Oratory EVENTS EXTEMP Internet Usage is allowed in your prep-time. Extemp will draw rounds 1 and 3. They will give their 1st round speech in round 2 and round 3 speech in round 4. The topic areas are as follow: · ROUND ONE: United States Topic · ROUND THREE: International Topic *NOTE: Students need to report to Extemp Prep each round. On non-draw rounds (2 and 4 - students may use the prep time to edit their speech, do new research, etc.) They will still speak in the order in which they are scheduled. RADIO We will follow the new radio format. The radio prompts will be available on Monday, November 7th after 5:00 pm. Radio students must go to radio first. Radio students may not use any prepared outlines. FORMAT Rd 1: News Program (Music lead-in/lead-out, Commercial, Newscast) 5 min. Rd 2: Prewritten editorial 2 min. Rd 3: On the Spot 2 minutes to prepare, speak for 2 minutes Rd 4: News Program (Student may use Round 1 material) 5 min. DISCUSSION Artifacts will be released Monday, November 7th after 5:00 PM CONGRESS We will use the Nov/Dec Docket. Bills: 1: A Resultion to Require Substance Abusers to Go to Rhabilitation to Lower Recidivism 3: A Bill to Implement Ranked Choice Voting to Make Every Vote Matter 5: A Resolution to Refocus th e"Prosper Africa Initative" to Solely Prioritize Sustainable Development 6: A Resolution to Develop Marine Technology and Encourage Deep-Sea Exploration 10: A Bill to Ban Trading of Stocks by Members of Congress TOURNMENT ENTRIESNOVICE DEFINITION For our tournament, we are defining a novice speaker as a first-year speaker who has no or limited speech experience and no more than 75 NSDA points. Speech Events Entry Per Team: 40 Event Limitation: None. You can enter as many students in any event as long as you do not breach the team cap of 40 entries. 1 team only per school. Rounds: 4 straight rounds. 1 judge in each round Student Doubling Permitted: YES Pickup Drops Allowed: NO JUDGEING AND BALLOTSThis is an e-ballot tournament. Judges must bring their own device. Each school must bring one judge for every 5 entries and every fraction thereof (6 students = 2 judges) BALLOTSAll Ballots will be uploaded on Speechwire after the tournament for any coach to download.

CONCESSIONSThere should be no leaving the building as food for students will be served in the cafeteria. This is a fundraiser for us so please have students bring cash. Hospitality for judges, coaches and bus drivers will be provided. AWARDSRibbons will be awarded for top 6 in each event.
