The University School and Classic Debate Camp Speech and Debate Tournament

The University School Speech and Debate Program is excited to welcome you to our first tournament in many years. We are also excited to welcome back to US (for one day at least) Peter Paik as we will be co-hosting our tournament with Classic Debate Camp

This link below has all of the information that you need about the logistics of the tournament as well as links for registration and competition.

We are excited to offer an online option for programs that may not have a local opportunity to compete or might just be looking for a respite from travel. The tournament will be conducted via Speechwire and Zoom. This tournament will have 4 standard rounds.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To maximize what students learn from our tournament, all debate judges will be encouraged (though not required) to disclose their decisions and give oral critiques after each round. We also plan to post results in debate events after each round is tabulated. We will communicate with judges prior to the tournament about best practices in disclosure in addition to discussing it in judge instructions. We also encourage you to discuss this with your own competitors and judges.

Events: We will offer all nine OSDA speech events, LD, PF, Congressional Debate and Policy Debate.

For Middle School, we will offer MS Declamation, MS Extemp, MS Interp, MS Oratory, MS Congress, MS Public Forum, and MS Extemp Debate.

Congress: High School will use the OSDA January 2022 Legislation for January 21. MS Congress Docket is 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7 from the MS Congress Part 2 Docket.

Judges: Speech ratio is 1 judge for every 5 entries. Debate ratio is 1 judge for every 2 entries. Congress ratio is 1 judge for every 10 entries. Please do your best to fill your entire judging obligation. SpeechWire will ask for judge names AND emails. Please make sure that you have entered their email correctly AND that you have confirmed their access to Speechwire prior to Saturday morning.

Entry Fees: Entry fees are $5.00 per person; PF, 2 Person Policy, and Duo are $10.00 per team. Please make all checks payable to University School.

We look forward to seeing you and your competitors on January 21, 2023!
