Welcome to the Debate Broward Middle School Championships on May 13th at Stoneman Douglas High School!
 
Please follow the instructions on this page to register your entries. Remember, each school may only initially enter FIVE students in all events except Congress, in which you can enter TEN.
 
Registration for NEW ENTRIES will close on Tuesday, May 9th at 5 pm. However, in order to give you and your students the best lunch experience possible, our hosts at Stoneman Douglas have to put their food order in first thing Monday morning, so they really need you to have your entries as accurate as possible before you leave work on Friday, May 5th. On Tuesday, May 9th as many students will be released from the waitlist as judge numbers allow. Changes (drops or name changes) can be made until 7 am on Saturday, May 13th. Any changes after that, please text Justin Weaver: 954.790.8160 the school name, student who is dropping, and her/his event. 
 
You MUST arrive AND check-in for the tournament between 7:30 am and 8:00 am. If you or your students arrive after 8:00 am you will run the risk of being dropped from the tournament!
 
There will be 5 rounds of competition followed by an awards ceremony. Congress will have 2 rounds and then a Final.
 
Debate Broward will NOT be providing transportation for this tournament. You must arrange for your own transportation or parent drop-off/pick-up from Stoneman Douglas.
 
For PF, the 2023 Nationals topic will be used - Resolved: The United States should adopt ranked-choice voting for its federal elections.
 
For LD, the 2023 Nationals topic will be used - Resolved: Government employees have a moral obligation to leak classified information to address injustice.
 
For Policy Debate, the 2022-23 topic will be used - Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity.
 
Extemp topic areas will be "the U.S. Presidency", "Climate Change", "the U.S. Legal System", "Digital Security", and "the U.S. 2024 Election".
 
Impromptu topic areas will be "Book Quotes", "Social Media", "Routines", "Cooking", and "Champions".
 
Congress legislation was emailed to coaches and is posted here under the "Files for Download" section. The legislation packet designates 3 pieces of legislation for each round of competition.
 
More information will be distributed as the tournament approaches. Please let your mentor know if you have any questions.
