Dear Coaches,

The Battle High School Speech and Debate team is pleased to invite you and your team to attend our 2nd annual weeknight tournament which will be held on October 19th, November 9th and December 7th, 2021. This tournament will be held entirely virtually, with debate events being held synchronously and speech events held asynchronously. For debate, the topics associated with the corresponding month per NSDA will be used.  .  

You will find this format is quite different.  Our hope is that it allows for more ongoing debate participation without needing to clear an entire weekend. Students can participate in all three evenings or select dates based on availability.  It will count as one tournament per MSHSAA guidelines either way for each event entered.    Students who are able to attend more nights will have a higher potential to earn overall performance awards.  After the first two rounds of debate students will power matched helping us determine strongest overall performers.  For speech, this will occur after round four.  

Please register through Speechwire. We will update based on the entries the Friday prior to each event.  On the Monday prior you will be emailed a list of expected participants and you must notify us by Tuesday morning of any changes.   You can add and drop students without penalty due to our unique format if you abide by these check in guidelines.   Each school is guaranteed 6 entries in each speech event and 8 entries in each debate per each division. It is ten dollars for each entry which covers all three nights of competition.  

Each school must provide at least one qualified judge for each round of competition and an additional judge per every 20 competitors. If necessary, we may ask coaches to judge.
