Dear Coaches,

We are excited to invite you to our first tournament of the North Florida Catholic Forensic League 2021-2022 season.  This tournament will be held IN PERSON at Colonial High School (Orlando, FL), on Saturday, September 24th, 2021. Team check-in on the day of the tournament will begin at 8:30 am and close at 9 am. HEAD COACHES will be asked to verify their entries to tab staff at check-in, and will sign to guarantee that all adults brought to judge have received judge training and have been given all judging materials.

- E-Ballots - We intend to go paperless and use e-ballots for the tournaments.  Because of this devices will be necessary (especially for judges) at tournaments.  While you can use phones we would recommend a laptop or tablet.

- Price of Tournaments/ Lunch Provided - The lunch order will be part of the $14 registration for the tournament for all competitors ($28 for teams of 2).  If any member of your team signs up for a 2nd event registration will be an additional $6 for them.  Options will be provided for you on Speechwire, and there will be a vegetarian option.  Adult/Observer meals must be purchased separately for $8.00 per meal.

- Registration End Times - Because of the need to finalize lunch orders with sufficient time for the host school to arrange a final order, tournament registration will return to the traditional deadline of Friday of the week before the tournament (8 days out) at 5pm.

ALL participants, competitors, and judges must have Speechwire accounts and be Linked. NEW competitors & Judges will receive an email with a password to be able to link their account and, for judges, to access E-Ballots. PLEASE VERIFY THIS WITH YOUR STUDENTS & JUDGES BEFORE SATURDAY MORNING.  Please also make certain that each judge has added a phone number to their Speechwire account where they can be reached.

Our tournament will offer a complete day of NCFL qualifying events as well as new non-qualifying events (POI, INFO, and Extemp Debate), with novice-only options should enough competitors register to justify the split.  If an event does not have enough entries in each division to justify the split the event will be mixed novice and varsity with recognition being given to the top novices.

We will have four rounds in all events except Congress, which will have two sessions. While not required to compete teams wishing to submit Congress legislation for this tournament must send their bills as Google Docs to thechairhighlyfrowns@gmail.com before 10 days out (Wed. 9/14).  At that time the tournament legislation will be finalized on the live doc...

Congress Legislation MUST be submitted BY A COACH as google docs using the bill templates available at congressionaldebate.org. The docket for each chamber will be set the morning of the tournament by the Tab Staff.

The Extemporaneous Speaking topics for CFL 1 are:

1) COVID
2) Democracy
3) Climate
4) Pop Culture

*Each round may contain typically international questions and typically domestic questions.

We hope to see all of you at the tournament. Please note that it is the responsibility of each Head Coach to provide the required number of TRAINED judges:
1 debate judge for every 2 teams and 1 speech judge for every 5 entries. JUDGES LISTED AS I.E. MUST BE TRAINED & PREPARED TO JUDGE CONGRESS.
A FLEX judge, who is trained to judge ALL events is required for Schools with more than TEN (10) entries. Head coaches may also designate ANY NUMBER of qualified judges as FLEX judges. If the required number of judges is not provided, including drops on the morning of the Tournament, schools will be required to drop competitors.

We wish the best of luck to you and your students as you prepare for our upcoming events. We hope that you have a great tournament and we are excited to see you all back IN PERSON!

Best wishes,
The NFCFL Executive Board
