This is a Middle/High School tournament in Groveland, Florida.
 
You are cordially invited to the Central Florida Civics & Debate Initiative Tournament #2, to be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 at South Lake High School, 15600 Silver Eagle Rd, Groveland, FL 34736. This tournament will be live and in person.
 
The CFCDI Tournament #3 at South Lake High School offers middle school, high school novice, and high school varsity competition. All schools are welcome to compete in this tournament.
 
There will be three rounds of competition in all events, except for Congressional Debate, where there will be two 1.5 hour-long sessions. Check in begins at 8:15AM. The tournament will begin at 9:00am Eastern time. We hope to finish awards by 3:30pm, but please be flexible regarding the end time of the event.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 3:00pm.
 
Please plan to arrive at South Lake High School, no later than 8:15am the morning of the tournament to check in.
 
EVENTS and DIVISIONS: We offer middle school, novice, and varsity divisions. If numbers allow, we will offer separate middle school and novice divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Middle School Champion Award in addition to the usual awards. "Varsity" is Year 2 of high school debate.
 
No Double Entry.  If a coach submits the same student for two events, that student will be automatically disqualified for both events.

NOTE: Students will debate BOTH sides of the resolution. 
 
Lincoln Douglas Debate: We are using the November/December 2022 NSDA topic - Resolved: The People’s Republic of China ought to prioritize environmental protection over economic growth.
 
Public Forum Debate: We are using the November/December 2022 NSDA topic - Resolved: The United States’ strategy of Great Power Competition produces more benefits than harms.
 
Extemporaneous Speaking Topic Areas: (1) U.S. Legal and Constitutional Issues; (2) Global Environmental Issues and Policies; (3) US Foreign Policy
 
Impromptu Speaking Topic Areas: (1) 90s Song Lyrics; (2) Superheros; (3) Movie Quotes
 
Extemporaneous Debate Topic Areas: (1) Interest Groups and the Media; (2) TBill of Rights; (3) Federalism
 
World Schools Debate: We are using the November 2022 NSDA Prepared Motion: This House would recoginze technology addiction as a clinical mental health disorder. 
 
CONGRESS LEGISLATION: Submit proposed legislation in either NSDA or NCFL format (either is fine) to ­­­­­­Apryl Taylor, taylorfcdi@gmail.com, no later than noon Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Legislation will be posted under the Files for Downlaod tab.

JUDGES:  We will need your judges in order to run the tournament.
 
The judge ratio for this tournament is 1 judge for every two debate entries; 1 judge for every 5 speech/interp/congress entries.
 
Please bring parents, teachers, former students, etc.!

Adults and coaches may judge any division. Qualified varsity with at least 75 NSDA points on record may judge only the middle school and novice divisions. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.
 
CONCESSIONS: Concessions (pizza, snacks, drinks, etc.) will be available for purchase with cash only.
 
NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR BEVERAGES PERMITTED.
 
COACHES: Coaches must be available for the duration of the tournament.
 
FEES: FCDI member schools pay no fees. Non-FCDI schools pay $4.00/student.
