Dear Speech Coach:

The Munster High Speech Meet will be held on Saturday, December 10.  Our current plan is to hold the tournament in-person.  The tournament only offers a varsity division. The Munster Speech Meet is a T.O.C. meet, and students will earn bids to the T.O.C. at the University of Kentucky. As we get closer to the meet, I will communicate additional info regarding bid information.  Preliminary registration is due on Friday, December 3 by 5:00 P.M, CST. Registration will be in the Learning Commons (Media Center). You may bring up to 4 entries per event and a total of 40 entries on the sweeps team.  If you would like a non-sweeps team, please let me know. You may bring as many entries as preferred as long as you have the judges to support the entry. We plan to use e-ballots. Judges will need devices such as a laptop, IPAD, or possibly a smartphone.

Double Entering: Contestants may double, and only three students may triple at their own risk. The third event must be listed as a non-sweeps entry. Triple entered students will be entered into the individual sweepstakes contest. If you are a Discussion contestant, you will not be eligible to double enter.   Both duo partners (OP Duos included) may double.  If you are doubling in two partner events, you must double only with the same partner for both events.

RADIO
Broadcasting will offer the following:
Round 1: Pre-written 5-minute newscast including, commercial, music lead-in & lead-out of the contestant's choice.
Round 2: Pre-written 5-minute newscast including, commercial, music lead-in & lead-out of the contestant's choice.
Round 3: Pre-written 5-minute newscast including, commercial, music lead-in & lead-out of the contestant's choice.
Final Round: On-the-Spot: 2-min. prep. with 2 min. performance

Discussion - prompts to be posted by Monday, December 5.  Questions will be provided at the competition.

***THERE WILL BE NO ADDED ENTRIES ON TOURNAMENT DAY****  - We appreciate you honoring this rule.

Please bring one qualified judge, willing to write informative critiques, for every five entries or fraction thereof.

Extemp: Extemp topics will be taken from current events.  Extemp Draw before Round 1 + Final Round.

We will provide ribbons to the Top 6 Finishers.  We hope to run a Honor Finals for places 7-12 dependent on judge availability. 7th and 8th place will be recognized and counted toward sweeps.  Also, we will provide medals to top the three finishers in each event. Finally, we will be offering an individual sweeps award for students in three events.  Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded to the top five schools.  Munster will not compete for team awards.

Concessions will be provided at a reasonable cost.   Plan to eat here since there are no close restaurants.  We look forward to seeing you on December 11.
Because of security concerns, students are asked to not enter a competition room until the judge is present.

Important: Please make sure to text any drops you have by 6:30 AM Central on Saturday at 219-218-1085. We prefer texting over phone calls.   There will not be any drops to pick up on the day of the tournament.

We look forward to a meaningful experience.

Sincerely,

Munster High School Speech and Debate
