The Concord High School Speech Team invites you to our annual speech tournament.  We will offer all 15 ISSDA speech events (Combined Extemp) as well as Congress and LD. All normal ISSDA rules apply, unless otherwise specified. Please make sure to read through all of the following information carefully. It will be a full day of competition. ALL TIMES LISTED ARE EST.

 

Speech Meet Information

 

Speech Registration: 8:00-8:30am in front of the Media Center. Extemp Prep starts at 8:45am with round 1 in all events starting at 9:15am.

 

Entries: Varsity and Novice divisions with a max. of 4 per event division (Novice=4; Varsity=4) in speech and LD. Congress entry limit is 7 per division. No “B” teams will be accepted because of space.

 

Judges: Please bring 1 judge for every 5 entries or fraction (6 entries=2 judges). The head coach is 

expected to judge and be listed as the 1st judge on the entry. 

 

E-Balloting We will be using online ballots for our tournament. This means several things:

  1. You will need to supply valid email addresses for each of your judges.

  2. Your judges will need to bring a laptop or tablet to use to judge. While smartphones can work, it’s a bit more difficult to write critiques on a phone than the larger devices.  

 

Doubling: All events are allowed to double according to ISSDA rules. LD is allowed to double except for the following: Congress, radio, extemp, discussion.

 

  • Please note the following regarding doublers in Extemp and Broadcasting:

  1. Extempers MUST go to extemp first and then go to their second event.

  2. Broadcasting doublers MUST go to Broadcasting first. 

 

Events:

  • All events will go 4 rounds. 

 

  • Broadcasting

    • Rounds 1 & 4 will be a 5 minute news program. Information for the commercial and music copy will be available for download Monday, November 14th after 6pm.

    • Round 2--Students should bring a 2 minute editorial on civility in contemporary society.

    • Round 3--On-the-Spot

 

  • Combined Extemp Round 1 Draw Topic Area is U.S. Foreign Policy. Round 3 Draw Topic Area is American Economy. NOTE: Draw will be done via speechwire. Students should bring a laptop/tablet with them and have a live.speechwire.com account to access their questions.

 

  • Discussion Artifacts will be available for download on Monday, November 14th after 6pm.

  • Congress: Bills to be debated are posted on speechwire. P.O.s will be elected within the chamber.

 

  • L.D.: November/December topic will be debated.  Resolved: The People’s Republic of China ought to prioritize environmental protection over economic growth.

 

Food: Will be available all day.  Please remember that as the cost to host a tournament increases, your support through purchasing food at the tournament is greatly appreciated.

 

Awards: Top 3 finishers in each event division will earn sweeps for your team.  Ribbons for the top 6 in each event will be awarded. 

 

Deadline: Registration is due on Speechwire by Tuesday, November 15th at 8:00pm.
