March 17th - lunch order update

Details are now together for our lunch order.  We will offer meal combos consisting of 2 slices of pizza (choice of pepperoni, sausage, or cheese) plus an apple, bag of carrots, chips, and a drink (milk/water) for $7 each.

You will need to place orders for each student and adult on your team who would like to order lunch for the tournament.  You can place your order on the tournament home page by clicking on "update your meal order." The cost will be automatically added to your tournament invoice.

Please enter your lunch orders by March 22nd.

To Wisconsin Forensics Coaches,

 

You are invited to enter your students in the 2022 Wisconsin WFCA tournament at Eau Claire on April 2nd, 2022.

 

Eligibility - All Wisconsin high schools are eligible to participate, regardless of the school’s affiliations with any forensics organizations.  Schools who have paid 2022 membership to the WFCA will be eligible for both team awards and individual student awards.  Non-member schools will not be eligible for team awards, but the students can still earn individual awards in their category.

 

Location - This year’s tournament will be hosted by the Eau Claire Area School District, specifically at Eau Claire North and Eau Claire Memorial High schools.  Details about location information can be found on the Speechwire home page of the 2022 WFCA State Tournament, under “additional information pages.” 

 

Entries – Each school will be allowed 25 entries with no more than four entries in any category. Students are not permitted to double enter categories. Only one team per school will be allowed in the tournament. Any bona fide pupil in good standing and in regular attendance in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade of the member school shall be eligible to compete. 

Student congress will not be held as part of this in-person state tournament, but rather will be a part of the virtual state tournament on April 8th.

 

Categories – All WFCA sanctioned categories and category rules will be used. Rules can be found at the WFCA website (www.wfcaforensics.org).

 

Format – The State Tournament shall consist of three preliminary rounds, a semi-final round, and a final round for each category.  Round one for all events will be at 9:15 am, round two at 10:30 am and round three will be at 11:45 am. Semifinal and final rounds will take place in the afternoon.

 

Fees – An entry fee of $10 per individual entry and $15 per group entry shall be charged. A fee of $15 will be charged for any changes occurring after the posted tournament close time. Schools who have not paid fees by the 15th of May will be assessed a $75 processing fee. If the fees are not paid by June 15th, an additional fee of $75 will be assessed. 

 

Judges – All schools participating must provide 1 judge for every 5 entries (or fraction thereof).

Judging will be done electronically through Speechwire.  All judges must have a linked speech wire account prior to the start of the tournament and bring a device to judge on. 

 

Food –There will be hospitality for the judges in the morning.

Lunch order details will be released by the weekend of March 12.

Eau Claire food services has asked for an approximate count of students and judges by March 15th for planning purposes.  Specific lunch orders will be due on March 22nd,

 

Awards – Awards will be presented to all of the finalists, and semi-finalists. Sweepstakes trophies will be presented to the top six Division 1, 2 and 3 schools based on State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) school enrollment for that school year. Designations for Division I, Division II, and Division III will be designated after registration closes.

8:20 am Judges’ meeting and Student meeting at Eau Claire North

8:30 am Shuttle bussing begin taking students to Eau Claire Memorial

8:45 am Draw for round 1

9:15 am Round 1

10:30 am Round 2

11:45 am. Round 3

12:30 pm Shuttle busses begin returning students to Eau Claire North

1:30 pm Semifinal round

3:30 pm Final round

5:15 pm Awards



 

Deadlines – Registration is open now on Speechwire. 

Tuesday, March 22: (5:00 pm) Lunch order details due

Tuesday, March 29: (5:00 pm) Entries due (registration will close) 

Friday, April 1: (5:00 pm) Coaches will no longer be able to make drops or name changes through Speechwire. (From this point on, if there are any details that need to be changed, they will need to be directly emailed to the tournament director (bkroll@sasd.net)).


 

Confirmation – A confirmation communication will be sent out to all registered teams on Wednesday evening, March 30th. That confirmation will contain additional information including: Saturday check-in details, specific logistics of student drop-off and transportation between buildings, details of which categories will be in which building, Maps to distribute to students and judges, Impromptu round themes, Extemp round topics, as well as student codes and more information. So please watch for that communication and please share it with your students. 


 

COVID mitigation - Masks must be worn by all students and adults at all times during the tournament, except when performing at the front of the room or while eating/drinking.  Each team will be assigned a “home base” classroom where they can gather before round 1 and after round 3.  These rooms will be used for preliminary round competition, but will not be used for semifinal or final rounds.
